The 2024 Biathlon World Championships will take place in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.

For the athletes it's not just about medals, but also about a lot of money.

Nove Mesto – The Czech city of Nove Mesto is hosting a World Cup for the second time after 2013.

At the World Championships, the biathlon stars will benefit from the general increase in prize money that the IBU world association passed two years ago.

A total of around 1.5 million euros will be paid out to the athletes at the competitions in the Czech Republic, as a look at the official prize money distribution shows.

Fourth place at the Biathlon World Championships is also worth it

A total of 200,000 euros alone will be distributed to the gold medal winners of the eight individual races.

A further 105,000 euros will go to the winning relay teams.

Around 20 percent of the total prize money goes to the new world champions.

The German athletes' hopes rest primarily on Franziska Preuß and Benedikt Doll.

The latter has already won two World Cup races this season despite Norwegian dominance, and Preuß has been on the podium several times.

It's not just the podium places at the World Championship that are worthwhile, but also placements in the top 10. So even the ungrateful fourth place in each individual race can look forward to at least 10,000 euros.

In contrast to the World Cup in Pokljuka 2021, prize money will also be distributed in Nove Mesto for places 21 to 30.

21st place still brings in 1,800 euros, while 30th place receives a financial “consolation” of 200 euros.

Biathlon: The prize money in the relay competitions at the World Cup

But the team competitions are also financially worthwhile for the athletes.

In the relay and mixed relay, the winning nation receives prize money of 30,000 euros.

The second best nation receives 24,000 euros, the third place receives 20,000 euros.

A total of 127,000 euros will be paid out per competition up to eighth place.

The Norwegians are the clear favorites going into the competition.

In the overall ranking in the World Cup, six Norwegians are at the top and therefore have the best chance of winning precious metal in the relay competitions.
