Just before the trade deadline, against one of the best teams in the NBA, Danny Avdia received a reminder of the ceiling that Washington itself places on him.
As in quite a few cases this season, also in tonight's game (between Wednesday and Thursday) against Cleveland, Avdia was one of the bright spots of the Wizards and yet was rather mysteriously ruled out throughout the last quarter, seeing Washington succumb to the superiority of Donovan Mitchell and lose 114:106.
Avdia finished the game with only 20 minutes, his fewest in the last seven games.
He was an attack on the offensive side with just 3-for-10 from the field, 1-for-3 from three and 2-for-4 from the free throw line, but still recorded 9 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in his minutes, showing sparks on both ends of the court.
Coach Brian Keefe preferred to give credit to rookie Bilal Koulibaly, who played most of the last quarter in an effort to slow down Donovan Mitchell (which didn't quite work, as evidenced by his 14 points in the decisive quarter), and Jordan Paul was also given credit, strangely considering he suffered a weak offensive day Very much and did not score a single point.
Paul was even booed by Washington fans in the last quarter, after another failed move.

But Avdia's benching in the last quarters is already a kind of trend, which started back in the days of Wes Anseld Jr. (although it seems to have intensified since he was replaced by Keefe, his former assistant), and Washington is already trying to wonder what is behind it.
"We didn't think we'd say this, but we feel for Danny Avdia," they wrote on the "WIZTAKES" Twitter account, and on the BulletsForever blog they added: "Avadia was more effective tonight, and more effective throughout the season.
Jordan Paul, on the other hand, did not appear at all.
So why is one playing and the other on the bench?
This is the kind of thing that happens in this team and makes you freak out with confusion."
One of the writers on the "BulletsForever" blog wrote: "In Danny Abdia's place, I'm going into the general manager's office tonight and asking him, 'What the hell is going on here?!'
If he plays less than Jordan Paul on a day like this, it's unthinkable.
Danny should get more, he earned it."
