Julian Weigl made it into the Bundesliga via TSV 1860 Munich.
A return to the Lions is conceivable for the 28-year-old in the future.
Munich – Julian Weigl is one of the most prominent upstarts from the youth ranks of TSV 1860 Munich.
Although the 28-year-old is currently still in his prime as a footballer and is even captain of Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga, the Upper Bavarian can “definitely” imagine returning to the Lions in the future.
“That is always an option when I talk to my wife or my family about what the next few years should look like and what I imagine at the end of my career,” Weigl revealed to AZ.
However, Weigl basically left it open whether as a player or in another role.
Julian Weigl follows Löwen on and off the pitch
Despite his departure almost nine years ago, Weigl still feels deeply connected to the club.
Although he hasn't played with any of the current players, he watches the Lions' games regularly.
In addition to the sporting events, he also follows the club's political disputes, which the former Borussia Dortmund player is not particularly surprised by due to his time in Giesing.
“Somehow people also love the club for the chaos around Grünwalder Straße,” explains Weigl.
Weigl has a clear opinion on the ongoing unrest in Giesing.
He would like to see a structural change, continuity and, among other things, people with competence and a lion's past in the management team, "but for some reason that doesn't happen."

In the spring of 2023, a torn syndesmosis ligament put Weigl out of action for several weeks.
He completed parts of the rehabilitation in his home country.
He followed a Lions home game live in the Grünwalder Stadium.
Weigl is particularly concerned about young people.
The 28-year-old also stopped by the young talents on Grünwalder Straße.
At TSV 1860 Rosenheim, where Weigl was trained before his time in Munich, the Bundesliga professional has been working as a youth patron for around a year.
He also supports the regional league team financially.
Like many fans, Weigl will closely monitor both the sporting and club political future of the Munich Lions - and who knows, perhaps the Bundesliga captain himself will one day become a decision-maker at the Lions.
