Footage of a women's collegiate volleyball game in the Canadian Collegiate League, which was taken over by five transgender people while "real women" warmed the bench, has sparked a gender uproar and even former tennis legend Martina Navratilova was not left indifferent.

Three transgender women played at Seneca and two at Centennial, with all five not leaving the court for one second.

"Men who identify as women took five spots in the starting six. Real women sat on the bench and watched men with pigtails play the entire game. Five women lost scholarships and opportunities," protested activist Scarlett Johnson on X (formerly Twitter).

Navratilova came across a video of the game online, and commented: "How wrong is this thing? Yes, it's wrong. It must stop."

This was a response to author Paula Diana who wrote: "This is not diversity. This is cheating. This is insanity. This is misogyny."
