TSV 1860 Munich is still unbeaten under new coach Argirios Giannikis.

Julian Guttau and Fynn Lakenmacher in particular are impressive offensively.

Munich – Julian Guttau and Fynn Lakenmacher are emblematic of the upswing at TSV 1860 Munich.

The offensive duo almost single-handedly ensured the Lions' important home win in the 3rd league against Rot-Weiss Essen.

The Sixties remain undefeated in the fifth game under new coach Argirios Giannikis and gained some breathing room in the relegation battle of the 3rd league.

Guttau prepared Lakenmacher's opening goal and made the decision with a dream goal after the break.

Fynn Lakenmacher: Candidate for change under Jacobacci – key player under Giannikis

Lakenmacher in particular has benefited from the coaching change so far.

Although the striker was largely part of the regular staff under Maurizio Jacobacci, the club was planning to at least let the 23-year-old go on loan.

Lakenmacher finally seems to be blossoming under Giannikis.

He has two goals and one assist in his last five games.

“I think he's just gained a bit of self-confidence again under the new coach,” said Guttau, pleased about his strike partner's improving performance curve after the win against Essen.

Interplay between Julian Guttau and Fynn Lakenmacher: “It’s really fun”

The new playing system seems to suit the big offensive man: “He has an important role in securing the balls at the front with his robust body.

“I’m a little bit behind and then try to take the balls,” says Guttau, describing the interaction between the two.

“He is important for us.

He has shown often enough that he can score goals.”

Lakenmacher also praises the connection between the two: “It works really well and is really fun to play with Gutti.

He moves well in the rooms and we always look for each other.” Guttau is also one of the winners under Giannikis and seems to be increasingly regaining his old performance level.

Julian Guttau benefits from role change at TSV 1860

Guttau scored three goals and one assist in the first seven games.

After that it only worked again under Giannikis with a goal participation.

Like Lakenmacher, he has three scorers (two goals, one assist) in the first five games under the new coach.

“I feel good and comfortable in the system we are currently playing.

“I come more from the center and have my freedom,” says the ex-Freiburger, explaining his upturn in performance.

While Guttau was used on the left flank in the first half of the season, he has recently been playing more centrally.

Julian Guttau praises new coach Argirios Giannikis

Guttau attributes the Lions' recovery primarily to Giannikis: “He gives us a good match plan.

I think that's very important.

He didn’t even try to learn so many new things, but simply tweak small adjustments that didn’t work before.”

According to Guttau, the Lions have improved particularly when it comes to running, playing with the ball and in defense.

However, the 24-year-old still sees potential for improvement in the team's cleverness.

The derby against FC Ingolstadt on Sunday will show whether the Lions' upward trend will continue.
