Tereza Jandova ends her biathlon career at just 22 years old.
Ultimately, her illness took away her passion for sport.
Nove Mesto – The Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto should actually have been the career highlight for Tereza Jandova so far.
For the Czech, taking part in the World Cup would have been a home World Cup.
However, a few weeks before the supposed highlight, the biathlete ended her career - at just 22 years old.
Jandova will be diagnosed with diabetes in the summer of 2022
“I have officially decided to end my wonderful biathlon career.
The main reason is my health, which has been going crazy since last summer,” Jandova wrote on Instagram around the turn of the year.
In August 2022, the Czech woman was diagnosed with diabetes and her life turned upside down.
Over time, Jandova learned to deal with the illness and was initially able to continue pursuing her passion, biathlon.
As a result, sporting performance decreased significantly.

In the end, Jandova no longer enjoyed biathlon
“During training this year I felt like it wasn't the same.
My performance dropped with every training session and I don’t even need to talk about the races anymore,” the ex-biathlete continues.
Jandova came to the realization that top-class sport was not compatible with her autoimmune disease.
“I haven't enjoyed it for some time and it's only made my health worse,” says the Czech about the last few weeks as a competitive athlete.

Before the season, Jandova was firmly convinced that the love for the sport is stronger than any illness.
The 22-year-old's goal is to “compete throughout the season.”
