But the comeback of the unlucky Mateu Morey is probably the even bigger story: The Spaniard was injured for almost three years and last played on April 18, 2021. Coach Edin Terzic gave the Spaniard a long hug after the game - wonderful pictures!

89th minute:

Almost 4-0!

Füllkrug serves Sancho, but Atubolu is there.

Seconds later, Sancho has the next chance on Brandt's template, but is again too imprecise.

BVB against Freiburg now live: Dortmund cannot be stopped – unlucky person celebrates goosebumps return

88th minute:

Dortmund changes: Reus, Can and Maatsen go out.

Sancho and Hummels are coming.

And stadium announcer Nobby Dickel then announces a certain Mateu Morey: The Spaniard is celebrating his comeback after several years (!) of bad luck with injuries.

Pure goosebumps.

It is the first time that he plays in front of a sold-out Westfalenstadion.

This was not possible in his last game in April 2021 due to the Corona situation.

Great atmosphere in the stadium - Morey has a smile on his face.

Dortmund strong against Freiburg: Füllkrug puts the lid on it

86th minute: Corner for Dortmund.

AND IT WILL BE DANGEROUS ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT!

3:0, Niclas Füllkrug.

Ian Maatsen brings the second ball from the left into the middle, Füllkrug runs in and scores a remarkable header to make it 3-0.

Lid on it!

And the birthday child can still celebrate his goal.

85th minute:

The only thing you can accuse Dortmund of here is that they don't close the bag.

83rd minute:

Freiburg tries again.

There is a corner kick.

But ultimately it won't be dangerous for Gregor Kobel in the Dortmund box.

79th minute:

Both teams make substitutions: Wolf comes on for Ryerson at BVB.

On the Freiburg side, Günter and Philipp replace Makengo and Sallai.

BVB against Freiburg now live: Dortmund cannot be stopped

77th minute:

Reus walks through the Freiburg half and is not attacked.

But his shot is blocked.

The guests no longer have anything to oppose here.

75th minute:

Next Dortmund chance for Reus: But Malen was previously offside.

74th minute:

A shot from substitute Ritsu Doan – Gregor Kobel is there.

74th minute:

Donyell Malen sees yellow.

72nd minute:

Ian Maatsen hits the post!

Dortmund's Chelsea loanee comes to the finish from a tight angle, but only hits the outside of the beam.

70th minute:

Freiburg now offers Dortmund more space.

Julian Brandt almost finds Marco Reus - BVB's third goal is in the air.

A few moments later, Reus has a great chance to head the ball.

After a Malen cross, Atubolu is the winner again.

There is corner.

69th minute:

A lot would have to happen here for Dortmund to falter again.

Freiburg is still far too harmless.

66th minute:

Malen again: Szalai blocks his shot for a corner.

Immediately afterwards, Dortmund makes a substitution.

The strong Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is off work.

Julian Brandt is making his comeback after recovering from illness.

64th minute:

Now it finally seems to be working.

Football is being played again.

BVB against Freiburg now in the live ticker: game interrupted again

63rd minute:

The game is back on track.

But only briefly.

The next tennis balls are flying.

61st minute:

Tennis balls again - the game is interrupted again!

Now because of the Freiburg fans, who are also rolling out a banner.

When referee Harm Osmers whistled again, the next tennis balls flew.

It needs to be serviced again.

59th minute:

Double substitution at Freiburg: Noah Weißhaupt comes on for captain Vincenzo Grifo.

Ritsu Doan replaces Michael Gregoritsch.

53rd minute:

Füllkrug!

Almost 3-0 for Dortmund, but Atubolu reacts brilliantly.

Ryerson had previously served the Dortmund target player with a low cross from the right, but the birthday boy failed from close range.

51st minute:

Freiburg becomes a little more active, Szalai heads the ball after a Grifo free kick.

But the Hungarian was offside.

46th minute:

Let's move on!

And Bynoe-Gittens immediately fires Dortmund's first warning shot.

But Atubolu is at his post.

HALFTIME: Very mature performance from Borussia Dortmund.

Niclas Füllkrug finds the outstanding Donyell Malen twice.

The Dutchman scored twice to give them a deserved 2-0 half-time lead - although Dortmund didn't have many or particularly clear chances.

But the efficiency is right.

Freiburg still has no resources and may have to cope with the next long-term loss of Manuel Gulde.

45 + 13th minute:

Another corner for Freiburg.

But nothing happens anymore - pause!

45 + 11th minute:

And that has to be 3-0!

Malen crosses from the left into the center, Ryerson, who has moved up, finishes - but he puts the ball just wide.

BVB against Freiburg now live: Dortmund strikes ice cold after an interruption

45 + 7th minute: GOAL FOR DORTMUND: 2-0, Donyell Malen.

Ice cold Dortmunders!

Niclas Füllkrug picks up the ball in his own half and shakes off his guard Kiliann Sildillia like an annoying fly.

The German international drives the ball forward, finds Malen again - and his right-footed shot from half-right hits the far corner.

World class counterattack!

BVB is on track.

And Füllkrug rewarded himself with two assists on his 31st birthday.

45 + 5th minute:

BVB comes again, but Malen is just stopped in the Freiburg box.

45 +1.

Minute:

Let's continue – with twelve (!) minutes of added time.

BVB against Freiburg now live: game suddenly interrupted

45th minute:

The players keep themselves somewhat warm with passing exercises.

Things should finally continue here shortly.

42nd minute:

Now objects are flying onto the lawn again.

The interruption will probably last a while.

41st minute:

The encounter has been interrupted for five minutes, BVB captain Emre Can had already rushed to the south curve to speak to a masked fan.

36th minute:

The game is interrupted - the reason is once again fan protests.

Tennis balls fly onto the lawn and the teams retreat to the sidelines.

The Dortmund fans also roll out posters - but these are nowhere near as tasteless as the ones that the Hanover supporters presented in Hamburg on Friday evening.

34th minute:

Is there anything else going on before the break?

Dortmund is still on the trigger, again and again it goes down the left side of Bynoe-Gittens.

The young Brit is very agile here and is now taking a corner.

But the guests can clarify.

30th minute:

Next good chance for Dortmund, but Sabitzer misses the shot.

Freiburg clarifies.

28th minute:

The 1-0 score naturally plays into Borussia's hands.

The Freiburgers lack the resources, the Dortmund defense with Schlotterbeck and Süle in the center is too stable.

23rd minute:

Freiburg has to change: Szalai comes on for Gulde.

This means that the third SC central defender is injured.

Bitter!

20th minute:

What is Freiburg's answer?

Gregoritsch heads towards the Dortmund goal after a Kübler cross, but Kobel is there.

At the same time, Freiburg's Gulde is being treated after apparently injuring his knee.

The defender twisted his knee badly when he tackled Malen - that didn't look good at all.

BVB against Freiburg now in the live ticker: dream start for Borussia Dortmund

16th minute: GOAL FOR DORTMUND: 1-0, Donyell Malen.

There's the lead for BVB!

Sabitzer drives the ball forward and finds Füllkrug in the penalty area.

The center forward passes for Malen, who sinks the ball into the Freiburg box.

Deserved lead for black and yellow.

14th minute:

Bad attack from Dortmund's Julian Ryerson on Freiburg's Lucas Höler.

That gives yellow.

Höler needs to be treated.

13th minute:

A lot in this 13th minute!

First the BVB fans demand a penalty after an alleged foul on Bynoe-Gittens.

The game continues, Donyell Malen finishes following a cross.

But his spectacular overhead kick lands in the arms of Freiburg keeper Noah Atubolu.

Spectacle guaranteed: Donyell Malen first tried an overhead kick and shortly afterwards scored with a remarkable shot to make it 1-0 for Dortmund.

11th minute:

Dortmund largely controls the action here, but Freiburg is waiting for needle pricks.

Once Vincenzo Grifo came through on the left side.

Otherwise there were hardly any goal area scenes.

8th minute:

Corner for Freiburg – but Dortmund clear.

7th minute:

First good action from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens on the left wing.

Actually, it should be a corner for BVB - but it's a goal kick for Freiburg.

4th minute:

BVB goes straight into forward gear here.

But there is still a lack of precision in the final third.

1st minute: And here we go!

The ball is rolling in Dortmund.

8.23 p.m.:

While things are about to get started here in Dortmund, there are tasteless scenes in the second division game between HSV and Hannover 96 in Hamburg.

7:48 p.m.:

The tension is rising, it starts here in just under 45 minutes.

The Westfalenstadion is filling up and the first players are already warming up.

7:24 p.m.:

The lineups are here.

There are several surprises at Borussia Dortmund: Julian Ryerson and Gregor Kobel make it straight back into the starting eleven, Niklas Süle and Marco Reus also play from the start - Mats Hummels is only left on the bench.

There are other top players to be found there: Julian Brandt and Jadon Sancho will remain outside for the time being.

The BVB line-up: Kobel – Ryerson, Süle, Schlotterbeck, Maatsen – Can, Sabitzer – Malen, Reus, Bynoe-Gittens – Füllkrug

BVB against Freiburg today in the live ticker: Dortmund's long-running favorite is surprisingly canceled

Update from February 9th, 5:39 p.m.:

Borussia Dortmund surprisingly has to do without Salih Özcan.

The midfielder was missing when he left for the team hotel, and according to Sky information, the reason for this is now clear: Özcan has a fever and will therefore be out at very short notice.

First report from February 9th, 4:24 p.m.:

Dortmund - It's all set for an exciting Bundesliga evening: The fourth-placed team welcomes the seventh-placed team, both Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg are eager for compensation.

Both teams recently missed out on a win.

Borussia Dortmund meets SC Freiburg: Both teams are looking for compensation

BVB presented themselves astonishingly lacking drive and ideas in Heidenheim and couldn't get past a 0-0 draw against the newly promoted team.

After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, one thing remains clear: Dortmund, the real football superpower, dropped a whopping four points against the small upstart.

Too little for higher demands.

Will there be a turnaround against SC Freiburg in front of the home crowd?

In Breisgau we know only too well how Borussia feel.

After all, shortly before Christmas they even lost 2:3 against Heidenheim.

There have been four Bundesliga games since December 20th, and Freiburg have only won one of them.

Will Dortmund now turn things around after they recently lost 3-1 to Bremen and Stuttgart?

Injury problems in Freiburg, returnees in Dortmund

In terms of personnel, things aren't looking good in Freiburg.

Coach Christian Streich has to improvise, especially in the back line, as the main central defense is unavailable: Matthias Ginter (irritated Achilles tendon) and Philipp Lienhart (groin operation) are not available.

Midfielder Merlin Röhl, who has been suspended, is also missing.

There are a few candidates at Dortmund who may return to the squad and perhaps even to the starting eleven.

Gregor Kobel, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt, who were recently ill, are back in coach Edin Terzic's squad.

Julian Ryerson and Karim Adeyemi could also make their comebacks after long periods of injury.

Thomas Meunier, who recently played on the right side, will no longer be an option.

The Belgian said goodbye to Türkiye.
