Borussia Dortmund opened the 21st matchday of the Bundesliga on Friday evening against SC Freiburg.

90th + 5th minute: And that's it! Strong Dortmund defeated an overwhelmed SC Freiburg at home 3-0. Man of the evening: Niclas Füllkrug: He prepared both of Donyell Malen's goals and nodded in the final score in the final phase - a successful 31st birthday.

But the comeback of the unlucky Mateu Morey is probably the even bigger story: The Spaniard was injured for almost three years and last played on April 18, 2021. Coach Edin Terzic gave the Spaniard a long hug after the game - wonderful pictures!

Freiburg still has no resources and may have to cope with the next long-term loss of Manuel Gulde.

Malen crosses from the left into the center, Ryerson, who has moved up, finishes - but he puts the ball just wide.

This means that the third SC central defender is injured.

What is Freiburg's answer?
Gregoritsch heads towards the Dortmund goal after a Kübler cross, but Kobel is there.
At the same time, Freiburg's Gulde is being treated after apparently injuring his knee.
The defender twisted his knee badly when he tackled Malen - that didn't look good at all.

The game continues, Donyell Malen finishes following a cross.
But his spectacular overhead kick lands in the arms of Freiburg keeper Noah Atubolu.
Spectacle guaranteed: Donyell Malen first tried an overhead kick and shortly afterwards scored with a remarkable shot to make it 1-0 for Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund surprisingly has to do without Salih Özcan.
The midfielder was missing when he left for the team hotel, and according to Sky information, the reason for this is now clear: Özcan has a fever and will therefore be out at very short notice.

Dortmund - It's all set for an exciting Bundesliga evening: The fourth-placed team welcomes the seventh-placed team, both Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg are eager for compensation.
Both teams recently missed out on a win.

BVB presented themselves astonishingly lacking drive and ideas in Heidenheim and couldn't get past a 0-0 draw against the newly promoted team.
After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, one thing remains clear: Dortmund, the real football superpower, dropped a whopping four points against the small upstart.
Too little for higher demands.
Will there be a turnaround against SC Freiburg in front of the home crowd?
In Breisgau we know only too well how Borussia feel.
After all, shortly before Christmas they even lost 2:3 against Heidenheim.
There have been four Bundesliga games since December 20th, and Freiburg have only won one of them.
Will Dortmund now turn things around after they recently lost 3-1 to Bremen and Stuttgart?

Injury problems in Freiburg, returnees in Dortmund
In terms of personnel, things aren't looking good in Freiburg.
Coach Christian Streich has to improvise, especially in the back line, as the main central defense is unavailable: Matthias Ginter (irritated Achilles tendon) and Philipp Lienhart (groin operation) are not available.
Midfielder Merlin Röhl, who has been suspended, is also missing.
There are a few candidates at Dortmund who may return to the squad and perhaps even to the starting eleven.
Gregor Kobel, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt, who were recently ill, are back in coach Edin Terzic's squad.
Julian Ryerson and Karim Adeyemi could also make their comebacks after long periods of injury.
Thomas Meunier, who recently played on the right side, will no longer be an option.
The Belgian said goodbye to Türkiye.

In the afternoon before the game there was still excitement about one of Dortmund's long-running favorites: Salih Özcan.
The central midfielder has been in the BVB starting eleven in each of the four Bundesliga games since the turn of the year.
According to information from
Ruhr Nachrichten,
he was missing when Dortmund left for the team hotel.
A possible reason for the Turkish international's absence was not given.
