Erling Haaland finds the net again

He found the net again.

And at the best of times.

While Manchester City struggled to open the score against the compact and rough block of Everton, Erling Haaland made the difference on a poorly pushed right-side corner by unleashing a powerful right-footed half-volley which left no chance for Jordan Pickford (70th).

A saving goal for the Norwegian who had not scored in the Premier League since the end of November 2023. The Citizens center forward even took advantage of the end of the match to score a double, on a rapid transition and a precise serve by Kevin De Bruyne (85th).

A good omen before the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Kevin De Bruyne's precise pass

Launched onto the pitch shortly before the hour mark, Kevin De Bruyne lit up the last third of the match with his creativity and verticality.

And despite his reduced playing time, the Belgian was decisive.

Indeed, in the last minutes of regulation time, on an ultra-fast transition, he perfectly launched Erling Haaland in depth, following a beautifully oriented control, thus allowing him to score a double and seal the Mancunian victory (85th).

Flops

Everton (too) unenterprising

After their draw against Tottenham last weekend (2-2), Everton hoped to do the same thing again by remaining compact and courageous.

Except that in the face of Manchester City's offensive talent, it is difficult to obtain a positive result without scoring.

And this Saturday afternoon, the Toffees were far too little enterprising, content to throw long balls behind the Mancunian defense.

Not enough to worry Ederson.

They will have to be more incisive in the next matches to get out of the red zone.

The lack of inspiration of the Citizens in the first act

In the first act, Manchester City purred.

The Citizens had (largely) the ball, turned it well... but were only too rarely enterprising.

Only Jérémy Doku attempted (and succeeded!) things on his left side, thanks to dazzling accelerations and well-felt dribbles.

Too little to bring real danger into the penalty area.

Fortunately for them, they were able to react after the break, in particular thanks to the entry into play of Kevin De Bruyne.
