FC Bayern face league leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the top game - and Thomas Tuchel appeared extremely motivated at the press conference.

The press conference is over.

“See you tomorrow, ciao,” says a cheerful and visibly motivated Tuchel.

11.55 a.m.:

Tuchel makes another urgent announcement to his Bayern stars: “We need better games than last time, we need our absolute maximum.

It's the week in which we want to prove ourselves.

We want to play against a lot of neutral fans who want change.

After many titles in a row for Bayern Munich.

But we play for our own needs.

We have the individual quality to beat Leverkusen.

We have winners in our ranks, we have great personalities.”

Tuchel shoots against critics: Bayern coach with message to those who “pick on it”

11.53 a.m.:

Tuchel himself in particular has had to endure a lot of criticism in recent weeks.

Now he reacts: “I think there are enough reasons to be happy that there are two teams that are scoring at an extremely high level.

We played one of the best half-series in the last nine years.

I don't really understand why we don't enjoy it and appreciate it.

You get the feeling that it tends to be a bit exaggerated individually and then there are others that you can pick on.

But it’s pointless to talk about it.”

11.50 a.m.:

Recently there was criticism of FC Bayern's style of play, including from Lothar Matthäus.

“We still have room for improvement in the way we play.

It is not yet as clear and spectacular as we would like,” admits Tuchel, but also reminds us again of the plight of injuries.

11.44 a.m.:

Tuchel about his coaching colleague Xabi Alonso: “He is an extremely important building block.

Leverkusen had a very lucky hand in squad planning, Xabi's handwriting is 100 percent recognizable.

There is no greater respect for it.

It didn’t take a lot of imagination to imagine that he would be a good coach.”

11.41 a.m.:

“TT” talks about the returnees Kimmich and Upamecano, who will be there against Leverkusen: “With Josh you don’t have to wait for signals, he comes into training with one arm and says it’s okay.

You can wake him up at 3 a.m. with influenza and then he'll tell you he's ready.

He is exceptional in his attitude.

Upa is burning.

He stepped in quickly after his injury and played outstandingly.

He has made another leap and has a great mentality.

He has completed all stages of rehab and is fully in team training.

But under no circumstances will I reveal who starts.”

Tuchel appeals to his team: “We have to show up and prove ourselves.

We've had an extreme injury situation so far.

It was also an extreme situation in the first half of the season.

But we never let up.

This week feels different than the other weeks.

We will now see how storm-proof we are.”

11.37 a.m.:

Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala play a key role in the top duel.

“I can understand the comparison.

Of course it’s up to Jamal to put his stamp on the game.”

11.35 a.m.:

The Bayern coach is aware of the importance of the game: “It's still early in the season.

Still, it feels like a special moment.

It's about challenging your opponent from the first to the last second.

We want to take the next step.

I think Leverkusen are playing closer to the limit than we are.”

11.33 a.m.:

Tuchel on the Leverkusen game: “I know what quality Leverkusen brings in home games.

A 0-0 is difficult to imagine.

30 teams tried to win against them.

30 teams didn't make it.

It's a very unusual series.

They are doing extremely well and deserve every single point.

But we only have two points less.

There's no reason to hide.

I think this is the moment when the cards are put on the table.

This is not the time to make big moves.

We’re going to Leverkusen to win.”

Tuchel sets Neuer's deadline for the Leverkusen game: "Then he says whether it's possible"

11.32 a.m.:

Tuchel's first personnel update: “Phonzy

(Davies, editor's note)

is out, he wasn't able to train.

Manu

(Neuer, editor's note)

was also injured against Gladbach.

He will try to start goalkeeper training today.

It's Manu, we give him until 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Then he says whether it's possible - and if not, Ulle

(Ulreich, editor's note)

is in goal." The coach continued: "Apart from the long-term injured, those who can be back are back.

Joshua

(Kimmich, editor's note)

, Minjae

(Kim, editor's note)

and Upamecano are back in training.

If nothing happens, everyone is ready to go.”

11.30 a.m.: The press conference begins, Thomas Tuchel is there.

Update from February 10th, 11:20 a.m.:

The eagerly awaited press conference is about to start on Säbener Straße!

Thomas Tuchel will answer questions from journalists.

The focus is of course clearly on the top game against Leverkusen.

It starts in ten minutes!

First report from February 9th:

Munich - The game of games is approaching: FC Bayern wants to conquer the top of the table in the Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

There are easier tasks: Xabi Alonso's Werkself are still unbeaten this season.

The game at the BayArena (Saturday, 6:30 p.m., TV information can be found here) could be groundbreaking for the rest of the season.

Former national player Michael Ballack (47) is also looking forward to the appearances of the two offensive players Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala in the top Bundesliga game between Bayer Leverkusen and FC Bayern.

“Both are very strong individually, they can resolve any situation,” Ballack told the

FC Bayern fears for Neuer: Can the captain play against Leverkusen?

“For me, Wirtz is a little more crucial for Leverkusen because he influences the continuation of the game from the defensive midfield to the creative area up front.

That's not quite the case with Musiala because Bayern, with their outstanding wing players, have a high level of individual quality that is second to none.”

But of course it's not just about the two young high-class technicians, but also about experience.

An important support for FC Bayern would be Manuel Neuer - and his appearance on Saturday is still questionable.

The four-time world goalkeeper only trained individually on Thursday and is still struggling with knee problems.

At the press conference, FCB coach Thomas Tuchel will explain what the current status is with Neuer and also with Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano, who have returned to training.
