SV Werder Bremen lost the Bundesliga game on matchday 21 against 1. FC Heidenheim 1:2 (1:2).

The DeichStube match report.

Bremen – Everything was actually perfect for the big party celebrating the 125th birthday: But the professionals from

SV Werder Bremen

were unable to reward themselves and their fantastic fans with a suitable result.

The Green-Whites played a weak game for too long and let

their anniversary be ruined by the 1:2 (1:2) home defeat against newly promoted team

1. FC Heidenheim .

Lennard Maloney (12th) and Jan-Niklas Beste (18th) scored for the guests, who are now unbeaten in eight games in a row.

Werder only got Romano Schmid's goal (19th) on the scoreboard and thus suffered their first defeat after seven games without defeat.

As with the first leg defeat (2:4), Bremen woke up far too late and their attack at the end was no longer rewarded.

That was of course a mood killer in the Weserstadion and also for the party that evening in the “Alte Werft” with 900 invited guests.

Werder Bremen loses against 1. FC Heidenheim - Ole Werner: “The more efficient team won”

“Relatively little or actually not at all,” said

Werder Bremen

captain Marco Friedl about his desire for the party in the evening: “But of course, we have to go there.

We'll look at it, but of course it would have been nicer with a win under our belts." And the defender said about the game: "We actually have to take the lead early, but that's how we play into Heidenheim's hands.

What they do best is set pieces, and after that we concede the 0-1.

After that we leave too much space and concede 0-2.

From that moment on, it feels like we're only playing for one goal.

It's simply our own fault today that we didn't get at least a draw." Coach Ole Werner was annoyed about a weak first half, but then said: "In the second half we showed a good reaction and also had some good opportunities.

Because we didn't use them, the bottom line was that the more efficient team won today.

That was the difference from previous weeks, where we scored our goals at the right moments.

It wasn't an undeserved win for Heidenheim, but I still think we deserved a point."

Werder Bremen's

coach Ole Werner had trusted the winning starting eleven from the last game in Mainz.

This was also due to the further absence of Mitchell Weiser (adductor problems), for whom Olivier Deman was allowed to start again.

Leonardo Bittencourt was not in the squad (ill), but new signing Isak Hansen-Aaroen was allowed to take part for him for the first time.

Naby Keita, who returned from the Africa Cup of Nations during the week, was also on the bench.

At

1. FC Heidenheim

, Patrick Mainka, Jan-Niklas Beste and Eren Dinkci had three ex-Bremen players in the starting line-up, and Norman Theuerkauf also later came on as a substitute against his former club.

Werder Bremen against 1. FC Heidenheim: Lennard Maloney and Jan-Niklas Beste put the guests in the lead

But before kick-off, things got historic: for

SV Werder Bremen

's

125th birthday

, the Ultras put on the biggest choreography the Weserstadion has ever seen - almost all of the 42,100 spectators in the sold-out arena wore green and white rain ponchos and provided an unforgettable goosebumps moment.

Numerous Werder legends such as Diego, Per Mertesacker, Mirko Votava and of course Ailton sat in the stands and saw how Jens Stage, after preparation by Marvin Ducksch, went around FCH keeper Kevin Müller in the fourth minute, but then only passed the ball to him

Post

shot.

What a wasted opportunity!

That should take revenge.

After a corner from Beste, Lennard Maloney headed the guests into the lead (12th).

The Werder defense had fallen asleep - and Niklas Stark was no longer able to stop the Heidenheim player in a direct duel.

The hosts seemed shocked and had to cope with the next low blow just six minutes later: Beste was able to perfectly complete a counterattack with a shot into the empty goal.

Bremen's chain of errors started with a sloppy pass by Ducksch, then Anthony Jung and Marco Friedl weren't quick enough against Dinkci - and keeper Michael Zetterer was lured out of the goal too early.

Werder Bremen against 1. FC Heidenheim: Romano Schmid shortened - Niklas Stark down injured

At least SV Werder Bremen

's answer was right

: almost in return,

Romano Schmid

headed in the 1:2 after a cross from Senne Lynen (19th) - a rare experience for the small midfielder.

The Weser Stadium shook.

But that didn't make Bremen any better on the pitch.

There was hardly anything going forward and Werder continued to have big problems at the back.

Tim Kleindienst narrowly missed making it 3-1 for

1. FC Heidenheim

(38th) – again after a corner from the strong Beste.

Bitter for the Green-Whites: After 40 minutes, defender Stark had to go down with a hip problem, and new signing Julian Malatini replaced him.

“I hope that the team can turn the game around,” said Diego during the break.

The Brazilian watched a long-range shot contest between two fans on the pitch - based on his legendary goal against Alemannia Aachen.

After the restart, things really weren't that delicate.

On the contrary: Lynen and Heidenheim's Adrian Beck collided heads and had to be treated for minutes (51').

But both were able to continue.

But things didn't really go any further on the pitch because both teams made one mistake after another - a scary game.

Werder Bremen loses against 1. FC Heidenheim: SVW has several bad luck with the post

It was enough for Werner, the coach of

SV Werder Bremen

brought on Nick Woltemade and Rafael Borré in the 66th minute for the unfortunate Njinmah and the weak Deman.

Midfielder Schmid took over the position of right rail player, Felix Agu moved to the left side of Deman.

It didn't really get any better, but it did get more exciting: During a dogfight between Stage and Patrick Mainka, the ball jumped into the Heidenheim captain's hand on the edge of the penalty area.

Penalty?

The video assistant sent referee Robert Schröder to the sidelines - and he ultimately decided on a foul by Stage, who had propped himself up.

An understandable judgment (69.).

At least Werder Bremen

was finally on fire

.

Ducksch failed completely clear of the strongly reacting keeper Müller (71'), then Borré only hit the post (76') and Ducksch found his master again with a free kick in Müller (78').

Just like in the 87th minute, when Zetterer set up his striker with a long shot.

Werner responded again, helping Skelly Alvero make his Bundesliga debut (for Lynen) and replacing Dawid Kownacki for Agu.

Almost with success: The ex-Düsseldorfer headed a Jung cross onto the post (90th + 1).

The goalkeeper Zetterer, who also stormed at the end, also failed to put the ball in the goal.

Then it was over.

The guest game at 1. FC Köln continues next Friday.

UPDATE LIVE TICKER

<<<

5:29 p.m.: The ticker man says goodbye for today.

Our colleagues take over and provide you with the most important information about the game in print and digitally.

We'll catch up again next week when Werder plays the important game in Cologne on Friday.

Get in!

5:27 p.m.: An annoying defeat ends Werder's unbeaten streak.

After a spectacular first half with a double strike by Heidenheim (Maloney/12th, Best/18th) and the quick answer by Schmid (19th), the game became increasingly flat, especially in the second half.

Only Borré briefly sniffed the possibility of an equalizer when he hit the post (76th), before Kownacki headed the ball again in stoppage time (90th+1).

That was it.

Werder's counter jumps back to zero, Heidenheim now has a big eight for the number of unbeaten games in a row.

5:26 p.m.: And that was it!

Werder loses against Heidenheim 1:2, the series breaks.

A pity!

90.+8:

Additional time has expired.

It does not look good.

90.+7:

The last minute of the game is underway.

90.+6: And Zetterer even gets his head on the ball!

It's dangerous, but it can still be clarified!

90.+5:

Malatini takes another corner!

Zetter is also coming forward!

90.+4:

Half of injury time is over.

Now Schröder whistles an offensive foul against Ducksch.

He's beside himself.

90.+3:

Werder's balls are getting longer and longer, but Heidenheim puts up a great defensive battle!

90.+1: Post again!

Jung crosses, Kownacki heads, the ball goes to the left goal post!

How bitter!

90.+1:

Seven minutes of added time are shown.

Werder still has seven minutes to avert the end of the series.

90th min:

Change at Heidenheim.

Best goes, shimmer comes.

89th min:

Schröder whistles for Woltemade's handball, the Weserstadion apparently does not agree with this decision.

87th min:

Another double substitution at Werder.

Agu and Lynen are out, Alvero and Kownacki are supposed to somehow force the equalizer.

Werder throws everything forward!

87th min: Werder's next good chance!

Zetterer plays an outstanding shot to Ducksch, who, under pressure, finishes from 16 meters, but Müller just parries it!

85th min:

Not at first, instead Heidenheim counters.

Theuerkauf takes a corner, Maloney then another.

84th min:

Werder is now standing pretty high, all the green and white players who aren't wearing goalkeeper gloves are standing in Heidenheim's half.

They make the rooms tight.

Can someone from Bremen still find a gap?

81st min:

Dinkci and Pieringer leave Platz, Theuerkauf and Sessa are now in the game for Heidenheim.

80th min: Werder combines through the center, Stage plays brilliantly to Borré, who finishes on the left, but again a Heidenheimer intervenes at the last moment!

Werder has to come, Werder is coming!

77th min:

Ducksch pulls a free kick just over the goal, Müller is also there, it's a corner - safe.

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against 1. FC Heidenheim: Post!

Werder needs a goal, what else is possible?

76th min: In return, Werder has a double chance: First it's Ducksch, who gets a free shot from 13 meters, but is blocked.

The ball bounces to Borré next to him, who tries a shot but only hits the post!

76th min: The corner goes close to the goal, Maloney heads just past the second post.

75th min:

Dinkci claims the ball that he gets passed through and dribbles his way into the penalty area.

It is only Agu who can beat him with a tackle at the end of the goal.

There is corner.

73rd min:

Werder's next offensive scene!

Schmid gets the ball past the opponent in the box on the right, but Müller comes out and throws himself on the ball at the last moment.

71st min: Ducksch!

Lynen passes through to the striker, who finishes freely on the left half in front of the goal and aims for the far corner with his right.

Müller parries.

The decision is then offside.

Tight box.

70th min:

Referee Schröder looks at the scene on the screen.

But he decides on an offensive foul because Lynen pushed his opponent down a little.

This causes Mainka to lose her balance and her arm goes up.

It's quite possible that that was the referee's understandable thought process.

69th min:

There is clearly a hand in the game!

That could be a penalty!

Lynen heads the ball from behind to Mainka's outstretched arm on the edge of the penalty area.

But it could also be outside.

67th min:

Agu loses the ball again against his Osnabrück buddy Traoré.

This becomes an offensive action for Heidenheim, but the Werder defense can clear the cross from the right.

66th min:

Double substitution at Werder.

Njinmah and Deman leave the place.

Now Borré and Woltemade are there for that.

65th min:

But you also have to remember: Heidenheim defends very well.

They stand deep at the back, move quickly, Werder can't get any space or speed into the game.

It could still be a tough few minutes until the final whistle.

As they say?

A quick goal would be good for the game.

63rd min:

And the next inaccuracy.

This time it is Schmid who ruins a counterattack with a bad pass.

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against 1. FC Heidenheim: A lot of fight, little offense – Werder has to come

60th min:

As interesting as the first half was at this point in the game, very little is happening at the moment.

Both teams shine with inaccuracies.

Example: Agu crosses well over the goal without any threat.

It's a miracle that the ball didn't fly out of the stadium and land in the front yard of an apartment building in Bremen.

57th min:

The game doesn't really have much to offer at the moment.

Little flow of the game, but now a counterattack for Werder.

Schmid plays on the starting Njinmah, who has a 40-meter run-up, but then doesn't finish.

It doesn't matter, because: Offside.

55th min:

Both are standing again.

Beck appears to have been glued.

They leave the place briefly, but then return again.

54th min:

Both players are still being treated.

Let's see if they can continue playing.

52nd min:

Lynen and Beck jump up to head the ball.

The Heidenheimer wins the duel for the ball, the personal duel goes to Lynen, who gashes Beck in the temple.

Both are on the floor and are currently being treated.

51st min:

Njinmah extends a high ball in a high arc into the penalty area and into the foot of Ducksch.

He takes it, but then the striker misses the ball and goes out into the goal.

If he gets it well, he stands free in front of the box.

50th min:

Pieringer tries it from the second row.

The ball goes just over, but Zetterer sees it and doesn't intervene.

49th min:

Schmid wants to send Njinmah from deep on the right, but the ball doesn't have enough power, so Heidenheim can clear.

46th min:

Frank Schmidt changed at the break: Kleindienst was close to being sent off, so Beck is now there.

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against 1. FC Heidenheim: The anniversary game continues in the Weserstadion

46th min: The second half is underway!

4:33 p.m.:

The teams have returned to the pitch.

It's about to continue.

4:17 p.m.: ... it's half time!

An interesting and at times crazy first half saw Werder go into the locker room with a narrow 1-2 deficit.

Despite a good start with a hundred percent from Stage (4th), it was the guests who took the lead 2-0 with a double strike from Maloney (12th) and ex-Bremen Beste (18th).

But that didn't last long thanks to Schmid's header (19').

Afterwards both teams had chances to score the next goal.

So it remains tight and exciting for the second half.

45.+2:

Ducksch gets another chance to shoot from eight meters to the right, but it is blocked.

But the linesman's flag goes up.

Then a whistle sounds because...

45.+1:

Njinmah wants to scurry through the stadium against three or four opponents, but can't do it.

His shot gets stuck in the defense.

45.+1:

As the two-minute stoppage time begins, Deman receives a yellow card for a foul in midfield.

45th min:

Njinmah gets a great long ball played into the path, but has to take it with his chest.

Accordingly, the pace is out the first time the ball is touched and Heidenheim can clear.

43rd min:

Goalscorer Maloney gets a yellow card for a hard tackle against Agu.

41st min:

Ole Werner changes before the half-time whistle.

Stark leaves the pitch, the aforementioned Malatini is now in the game.

40th min:

Following their own and not particularly dangerous corner, Werder stays on the ball. Ducksch gets a high ball on the right side and volleys it onto the far post, where Njinmah narrowly misses the ball.

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against 1. FC Heidenheim: Werder is swimming in the spectacle game

38th min: Apparently it wasn't enough for a punishable handball.

But Heidenheim now has several corners in a row.

The last one is extremely dangerous and comes close to the goal, where Kleindienst can't get the ball from close range.

Big thing.

37th min:

Jung is headed, the Heidenheimers complain about handball.

Meanwhile, Malatini runs to the bank.

35th min:

Föhrenbach tries a direct shot from 20 meters.

The ball didn't even come close to the goal, but it only hits Lynen.

This makes the ball dangerous and goes past the post on the left.

Corner.

It doesn't bring in anything.

34th min:

Kleindienst continues to work on the expulsion.

First he fouls Lynen, then Stark.

Referee Schröder leaves it at the next warning.

32nd min:

Nice move!

Agu starts into the gap on the right and is served by Ducksch.

He lifts his head and sees Deman in the middle, but Gimber intercepts the cross pass.

30th min:

It is now also obvious that Heidenheim wants to score goals primarily through counterattacks and is pulling back with the lead.

Werder has more possession of the ball.

Now a corner for Heidenheim, Jung is headed in, corner on the other side.

29th min:

Applause for Lynen, who lobs the ball over Dinkci in a duel.

26th min:

Njinmah has some space on the left, shows his great start and plays out an opponent.

When he enters the penalty area, he puts the ball a little too far in front of him, so that Gimber can intervene and draw the offensive foul.

24th min:

And now things are getting rough.

Maloney straddle Stage at the halfway line.

The accused must have a good defense lawyer; there is no other way to explain why he gets away without a yellow card for this foul.

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against 1. FC Heidenheim: Three early goals, post – spectacle in the Weserstadion

21st min:

It's definitely a spectacle, it has something of a legends game where the players don't take defensive work so seriously.

19th min: GOOD for Werder!

Something's going on here, Schmid heads home!

Only 1:2 left!

Lynen has the ball on the left near the box and is not attacked.

He hits a cross to the far post, where Gimber jumps under the ball and Schmid, who has run in, hits the goal with a header on the right.

Hope will soon be back!

18th min: And there it is 0:2, that doesn't exist.

Best hits.

Ducksch loses the ball at the front. Dinkci is served on the right, moves neatly and into the penalty area.

No one from Bremen can really keep up, Dinkci sees Beste in the middle who pushes the ball into the goal.

17th min:

Zetterer heads a long ball 30 meters in front of the goal straight towards the opponent, but Heidenheim cannot capitalize on it.

15th min: And the next dangerous scene for the guests!

Kleindienst brings a ball from the left sharp and flat in front of the goal.

Zetterer is there, but the ball slips through his fingers.

Dinkci and Beste are lurking, but Zetterer throws himself on the ball and prevents it from hitting the ball.

12th minute: Goal for Heidenheim.

Maloney nods off after the first corner from the right resulted in another from the left.

The ball comes six meters in front of the goal into the penalty area, where Maloney comes running with a lot of force and heads it into the middle of the goal to make it 0-1 from Werder's perspective.

11th min:

Now Heidenheim: Traoré plays a ball down the right side to Dinkci, who has a lot of space and gets a corner with his cross.

10th min:

Apart from Stage's chance, not much worth reporting has happened in the early stages.

Both teams largely neutralize each other.

8th min:

Schmid works deep in the opponent's half against the very physical and easily taller Maloney, but gets a foul whistled against him.

6th min:

Kleindienst with the next foul on the sideline.

The striker is currently working on being sent off.

4th min: That was a HUGE CHANCE for Stage!

Maloney plays a bad pass near the halfway line.

Ducksch gets the ball and plays into the path of Stage, who runs alone towards the goal from 35 meters.

He goes past Müller in the goal on the left, but then doesn't manage to push the ball into the empty goal!

He only hits the outside post.

There was a lot more to it, he HAD to do it!

2nd min:

Stage injects Kleindienst, who had problems receiving the ball in midfield, and steals the ball from him. Kleindienst pulls and pulls, Stage falls.

That gives yellow.

Clear thing.

1st minute:

The guests obviously won the choice of sides.

In the first half, Werder initially plays to their own fan curve.

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against 1. FC Heidenheim: The game in the Weserstadion is on!

, head coach of

SV Werder Bremen

, definitely has wishes for his team in this context.

“I hope that we can build on the last few weeks in terms of the willingness to perform and the team spirit on the pitch.

And I would like to see an increase in performance compared to the Mainz game.

We will certainly need them,” says the 35-year-old, alluding to SV Werder’s recent 1-0 tremor win at FSV Mainz 05.

Ole Werner

has of course noted and analyzed the fact that opponents Heidenheim have also been scoring a lot recently

– and there are a few parallels to his Bremen team.

“Both teams are in a good mood and are bringing their strengths to the pitch.

This is becoming more and more evident in results and points,” says the head coach.

And further: “Both teams have also been very disciplined defensively in recent weeks and have therefore been difficult to beat.

That’s what we can expect on Saturday too.” Above all, the standards of

1. FC Heidenheim

and Baden-Württemberg’s switching game left an impression on Werner.

“They can always radiate danger, even when they are not in the game at times.

It's important for us that we don't lose track over the course of the game, as has happened to many of Heidenheim's opponents in the last few weeks." And just as it happened to

Werder Bremen

themselves in the first half of the season.

This is what SV Werder Bremen's starting eleven could look like against 1. FC Heidenheim!

Werder Bremen in the live ticker against 1. FC Heidenheim: Bremen want to take revenge for the 2:4 defeat in the first leg

In the end, SV Werder Bremen

lost 4-2

in the Voith Arena after the Green-Whites had temporarily made up a 2-0 deficit.

This came up again

during the preparation for the new duel against

1. FC Heidenheim , as

Ole Werner

explains.

“We didn’t perform well for a long time back then,” he says, but is more than optimistic that his team will do better on Saturday.

“A lot has happened to us, we have stabilized and developed further in almost all areas.

We now have to continue this.” If this succeeds, and

Werder Bremen

possibly scores their fourth win in a row against

1. FC Heidenheim

, they will move up to seventh place in the table.

The last time the club was this good in the table was 40 match days ago.

Would mean: Werder would have come a lot closer to the unofficial title as the team of the hour.
