The 2023/24 World Cup in ski jumping continued on Saturday.

In Lake Placid, USA, the program included individual competitions and super team competitions.

While the DSV jumpers performed poorly in the individual competition, they were able to enjoy a podium finish in the team competition.

Lake Placid - The

ski jumping World Cup circus

is going on a big journey.

We're heading across the pond to the USA, more precisely to

Lake Placid

in New York State.

In the individual competition, the DSV Adler had nothing to do with the podium.

In the super team competition they were only narrowly defeated after a strong comeback.

Andreas Wellinger

The German duo took second place

came third .

Wellinger showed the longest jump of the competition in the final jump of 128 meters, which moved Germany up one place.

The super team celebrated its World Cup debut in Lake Placid last year.

Instead of four athletes, as is usual for a team, this competition

only requires two athletes

who

each complete three jumps

.

A super team competition is also planned for ski flying in Oberstdorf this winter.

In the individual competition on the hill in the US state of New York, Wellinger was the best German in seventh place on Saturday afternoon when the Slovenian Lovro Kos won.

After a weak first jump, Raimund improved a few places and landed in 16th place. The World Cup in Lake Placid ends this Sunday with another

individual jump

(3:15 p.m./ARD).

The entire result

Ski jumping on Saturday: The super team jumping in the live ticker

Conclusion

: In the end it was almost enough.

With his first good jump of the evening, Andreas Wellinger could almost have secured victory for the DSV team, but two tenths ensured an Austrian victory in the super team jumping in Lake Placid.

3rd round

: Now only Johann Andre Forfang is at the top.

And the Norwegian makes a mistake here.

He only manages 118.5 meters.

This means that the Norwegians are even falling behind Germany.

Austria wins ahead of Germany and Norway.

3rd round

: In the second attempt it is now green for the overall World Cup leader and he jumps shorter than Wellinger.

It's 123 meters, but due to the poorer conditions it's enough for the lead.

In the end, Germany is two tenths short of Austria.

Very bitter for the DSV team.

3rd round

: Can Stefan Kraft counter directly?

First he has to get off the beam again.

The wind is too strong again.

3rd round

: Now it's up to Andreas Wellinger.

Can he put Austria and Norway under pressure again?

And he shows a really strong jump here.

It's 128 meters for him.

That makes the competition really exciting again.

3rd round

: Ryoyu Kobayashi brings home fourth place for the Japanese.

On his last jump he lands after 116 meters.

3rd round

: For Lovro Kos it's no longer about anything.

It will be a disappointing result for the Slovenians, even if Kos reaches 122 meters here.

Giovanni Bresadola can take his team to fourth place after the Japanese, but he shows a very weak jump of 113 meters.

However, they remain extremely delicate in front of the Slovenians.

3rd round

: Now the Pole is allowed to go down and brings his team past Switzerland again by 116 meters.

3rd round

: Aleksander Zniszczol now has to wait a long time here.

For the second time he has to get off the beam because the crosswind is too strong.

3rd round

: There's not much left for Gregor Deschwanden.

They are already well behind the Poles in seventh place.

But Deschwanden shows a strong jump to 126 meters.

3rd round

: Michael Hayböck can now create a very good starting position for Stefan Kraft with his last jump, but he makes a mistake.

It's only 114 meters, so the duel for the day's victory is now completely open again.

3rd round

: And maybe we can even make some progress here.

Marius Lindvik only jumps to 122 meters and doesn't really land well.

So Germany is catching up with Norway.

3rd round

: Philipp Raimund can now secure third place here and he is doing it really well.

It's 125 meters for him.

In doing so, he is expanding his lead over Japan.

3rd round

: Alex Insam comes one meter further for the Italian team.

That shouldn't be enough in the duel against Japan, but Ren Nikaido only jumps to 112.5 meters.

However, Japan narrowly misses Italy.

3rd round

: Dawid Kubacki has a lot to catch up on here after his completely botched second jump.

But his third jump isn't particularly good either.

It is 114 meters.

That's not enough to overtake Slovenia.

Poland is in second place.

3rd round

: The final round has begun.

It will be opened by Killian Peier from the Swiss team with a jump of 113 meters.

He is now followed by Domen Prevc for the Slovenian team, who at least brings his team past Switzerland again with his jump of 120.5 meters.

Conclusion

: Andreas Wellinger cannot show a good jump in the second round either.

Things are better for the DSV team Philipp Raimund, who can regain some self-confidence in this competition.

Finland, the USA and Romania were eliminated after the second round.

2nd round

: Now only Stefan Kraft is at the top in this second round.

The overall World Cup leader flies to a strong 125.5 meters.

This means they are overtaking the Norwegians.

2nd round

: Now it is Andreas Wellinger's turn with his second jump in this competition and his fifth today.

But this jump is not optimal either.

He is hit by a gust right after the take-off table.

However, he still manages to save himself a good 122 meters.

Germany is second.

2nd round

: The Slovenians have fallen back a bit and Lovro Kos can't catch up here either.

It's only 115 meters for him.

This means the Slovenians are only fifth.

2nd round

: Ryoyu Kobayashi brings Japan back into the fight for the podium.

The Four Hills Tournament winner jumps 126 meters.

This puts Japan in the lead for the time being.

However, they lose this straight back to Johann Andre Forfang and the Norwegian team.

However, Forfang loses some ground at 123 meters.

2nd round

: For Gregor Deschwanden it is now about progress in the duel against the Finns.

He jumps to 119 meters.

That's enough to get Switzerland to the final.

The Poles should certainly be there, it won't be anything more after Dawid Kubacki's weak jump, even if Aleksander Zniszczol jumps to 124 meters.

They are in second place behind Italy

2nd round

: The Finns are still in the fight for progress.

Niko Kytosaho shows a jump of 116 meters.

That probably won't be enough.

Giovanni Bresadola does better with a good jump to 122.5 meters.

We'll definitely see the Italians in the final again.

2nd round

: Daniel Andrei Cacina will complete his last jump of the day.

The Romanians no longer have a chance of getting into the third round.

It reaches 99.5 meters.

The Americans will also be eliminated.

Casey Larson jumps 111 meters on his last jump.

2nd round

: Michael Hayböck is the last from the first group to jump here in the second round.

And he also shows a really strong jump of 127 meters.

Austria passes Germany again and even extends its lead.

2nd round

: Can Philipp Raimund show his good performances from the first round again?

Yes, he can.

He conjures 126 meters down here.

So he's catching up a lot here.

Germany is second for now.

2nd round

: Domen Prevc had a good first jump, but he can't do it a second time.

It's 118 meters for him.

The Slovenians cannot catch up here.

2nd round

: The next jumper who has something to make up for here is Ren Nikaido.

It reaches 124 meters.

But Japan remains behind Italy.

Marius Lindvik also shows a very good jump of 125 meters and keeps Norway in the lead.

2nd round

: Killian Peier didn't have a good first jump either.

However, he doesn't get far compared to Insam.

He jumps to 111 meters.

This means that Switzerland falls behind Italy.

And Dawid Kubacki also has huge problems here.

He wobbles a lot in the air and breaks off the jump after 106 meters.

This means they won't be able to hold on to the podium place.

2nd round

: Now it's Antti Aalto from Finland's turn.

He shows a solid jump of 113 meters and puts his team back ahead of Romania and the USA.

Alex Insam has something to make up for after his weak first jump and he manages to do it.

It's 123 meters for him.

This puts Italy in the lead.

2nd round

: The second round is opened again by Mihnea Alexandru Spulber.

The Romanian reaches 89 meters.

He is immediately followed by Andrew Urlaub from the USA, who jumps 107 meters.

Conclusion

: After the first round, Norway leads ahead of Poland and Austria.

Germany falls back to fourth place after Andreas Wellinger's weak jump.

Philipp Raimund had done very well beforehand.

1st round

: Stefan Kraft is the last jumper in this first round.

He shows a good jump of 127.5 meters.

The Austrians are pushing the German team off the podium.

1st round

: Can Andreas Wellinger attack at the front now?

Not really.

With only 119 meters, Germany falls back to third place.

1st round

: In the afternoon Lovro Kos secured his first individual World Cup victory.

His current jump, on the other hand, is not that strong, it is only 121 meters.

That's not enough to pass Norway, they even fall behind Poland.

1st round

: Japan is surprisingly far behind after Ren Nikaido's jump.

Ryoyu Kobayashi can at least make up some ground with 126.5 meters.

Japan is currently third.

However, the Norwegian team takes the lead after Johann Andre Forfang's jump to 125 meters.

1st round

: Gregor Deschwanden is now sitting on the beam.

However, the Swiss cannot keep up with Bresadola and only jumps to 117 meters.

This means that Switzerland falls behind Italy.

With Aleksander Zniszczol it is now the turn of the currently best Polish jumper and he underlines his role with 121 meters and the lead.

1st round

: The second Finnish jumper is Niko Kytosaho.

But he doesn't start flying either, landing after just 108.5 meters.

However, they remain ahead of the USA.

It's now Giovanni Bresadola's turn for Italy and makes a really good jump to 124.5 meters.

1st round

: The second group is now opened by Daniel Andrei Cacina for the Romanian team.

He jumps to 98.5 meters.

However, Romania will have no chance of reaching the third round.

Casey Larson now jumps for the USA.

However, it only reaches 101.5 meters.

1st round

: Michael Hayböck concludes this first group of the first round with his jump of 118.5 meters.

That's only enough for fifth place.

1st round

: Now it's Philipp Raimund's turn for the first time.

He's unlucky with the conditions but makes the best of it.

He is third with 120.5 meters.

1st round

: Marius Lindvik was third in the individual and he is also doing well in the team competition.

It's 125.5 meters for him.

This puts Norway ahead.

And Domen Prevc also made a good jump to 123.5 meters.

1st round

: It gets loud in the stadium because Dawid Kubacki is a Pole.

He shows a really good jump of 121.5 meters.

This puts Poland in the lead.

This will please the many Polish fans in Lake Placid.

Ren Nikaido, on the other hand, only reaches 111.5 meters.

This means that Japan is only in sixth place.

1st round

: Now it's Alex Insam's turn for the Italians.

The 26-year-old manages 113 meters and puts Italy in the lead.

He is followed by Killian Peier for the Swiss team, who brings his team to second place with 111.5 meters, level on points with the USA.

1st round

: This is followed by the USA team in front of their home crowd.

Andrew Urlaub jumps to 109 meters.

Anti Aalto is in the first group for Finland.

Aalto reaches 112.5 meters, but ranks behind Urlaub.

1st round

: And with that the Super Team competition in Lake Placid has begun.

Mihnea Alexandru Spulber from Romania sets the first distance with 89 meters.

Before jumping

: It starts here in a few minutes.

Mihnea Alexandru Spulber from Romania will be the first jumper to compete here.

Before jumping

: After Lovro Kos's individual victory, the Slovenians will certainly be the big favorites in this team competition, but the Austrians around Stefan Kraft will certainly also want to have a say here.

Germany, on the other hand, has more outside chances.

Before jumping

: Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang will jump for the Norwegians, while the Japanese team relies on Ren Nikaido and Ryoyu Kobayashi.

Before the jumping

: The ski flying world champions from Slovenia are sending Domen Prevc and the winner of the afternoon individual jumping, Lovro Kos, into the race.

Before jumping

: The Austrian team competes in today's team competition with Michael Hayböck and Stefan Kraft.

Before the jumping

: After the individual jumping in the early afternoon, national coach Stefan Horngacher decided on Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger.

If everything goes normally, both of them will complete three more jumps that day.

Before jumping

: And with that we enter this super team competition at an unusual time.

Two jumpers per nation compete here.

After the second round, the worst three teams are eliminated, with eight teams making it to the final.

The results of all jumps of the two athletes from each nation are added together to form the final result.

Ski jumping on Saturday: The individual jumping from Lake Placid in the live ticker

Conclusion

: In the end it is a conciliatory result for the German team.

Three DSV jumpers are in the top 15. With his seventh place, Andreas Wellinger even gains a few points in the overall ranking, as Stefan Kraft slips to 24th place.

2nd round

: Only Stefan Kraft can take Kos off the lead and he doesn't make it.

Kraft is hit by a gust at the top and only reaches 104 meters.

That's really bitter for the Austrian.

Lovro Kos thus secured his first World Cup victory.

2nd round

: It's now the turn of two Austrians.

First comes Clemens Aigner.

However, the Austrian cannot fly at all.

In the end it is 108.5 meters for one.

This means he falls back to 22nd place.

2nd round

: Three jumpers are now still up.

Ryoyu Kobayashi starts here.

The Japanese has to get off the beam twice because the wind is too strong.

On the third attempt he is allowed to go down and jump to 122 meters.

It's second place for him.

2nd round

: And Michael Hayböck also falls behind.

His 123.5 meters are only enough for third place.

2nd round

: It's definitely enough for Gregor Deschwanden, as the Swiss only jumps 120.5 meters and falls back to seventh place.

2nd round

: We continue with Lovro Kos.

He is doing much better than Nikaido, with his 125 meters he takes the lead and may still be able to attack forward.

2nd round

: Now it's Ren Nikaido from Japan's turn, but he can't convince here either.

At 113 meters he will fall very far behind.

2nd round

: Now it's time for Andreas Wellinger.

However, he cannot show a top jump.

It's 121.5 meters for him.

He's only fourth at the moment.

2nd round

: This brings us to the top ten of this individual competition.

Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal will be the first to jump from the top ten.

He reaches 120.5 meters and falls back to eighth place.

2nd round

: For Karl Geiger it's ten meters less.

That's why it's only enough for him to finish sixth.

2nd round

: Marius Lindvik from Norway goes much further here, flying to 133 meters in an upwind.

So he takes the lead here.

2nd round

: The third German is now Felix Hoffmann's turn.

He reaches a solid 120.5 meters.

He ranks fourth.

This will be his best World Cup result so far.

2nd round

: Half of the jumpers in this final are already down, with Sindre Ulven Jörgensen from Norway jumping in 16th place.

He reached 121.5 meters and came seventh in his first final appearance.

2nd round

: It's crazy what goes on here at the jump when it's a Polish jumper's turn.

However, the fans can only carry Dawid Kubacki to 125 meters and fourth place.

2nd round

: Things are still not going well for Pius Paschke.

His jump of 113 meters was only enough for fifth place.

2nd round

: After his weak jump in the first round, Aleksander Zniszczol is now doing really well again.

The Pole flies to 129 meters and takes the lead.

2nd round

: After a short break, we continue with Antti Aalto.

The Finn reaches 111.5 meters and is in fourth place.

2nd round

: With start number four we now see Philipp Raimund, the first German.

With a light tailwind, he jumps to 125.5 meters and takes the lead.

2nd round

: We continue in Lake Placid.

Robin Pedersen from Norway sets the first distance with 112 meters.

Before the 2nd round

: We will see five German athletes in the final.

The first will be Philipp Raimund with start number four.

He is followed by Pius Paschke (10), Felix Hoffmann (18), Karl Geiger (20) and Andreas Wellinger (22).

Before the 2nd round

: The final continues in Lake Placid at 4:22 p.m.

Skispringen in Lake Placid: Der Zwischenstand nach dem 1. Durchgang

1. Stefan Kraft (Österreich) 152,3 Pkt.
2. Clemens Aigner (Österreich) -3,5
3. Ryoyu Kobayashi (Japan) -4,4
9. Andreas Wellinger (Deutschland) -10,9
11. Karl Geiger (Deutschland) -12,0
12. Felix Hoffmann (Deutschland) -16,3
21. Pius Paschke (Deutschland) -20,6
27. Philipp Raimund (Deutschland) -25,5
33. Stephan Leyhe (Deutschland) -37,3/ausgeschieden

The qualification on Friday, in which only one jumper, the American Decker Dean, was eliminated, went accordingly for the German athletes.

Only two Germans made it into the top ten.

The best DSV jumper was

Andreas Wellinger

with fifth place.

He was followed by

Philipp Raimund

(9th),

Stephan Leyhe

(15th),

Karl Geiger

(17th),

Pius Paschke

(19th) and

Felix Hoffmann

(34th).
