Ski jumping on Sunday: The preliminary report for the individual in Lake Placid

It was a little American dream that the German ski jumpers

experienced on the first day of competition in

Lake Placid .

While they clearly missed out on a podium place in the individual competition, they were only two tenths

short of victory

in the super team competition .

Ski jumping in Lake Placid: Raimund with breast lift before individual jumping

It was above all Germany's top jumper

Andreas Wellinger

who showed unusual weaknesses both in the individual and in his first two jumps in the team competition.

But with his last attempt he was able to use the assists of the strong

Philipp Raimund

and secured Germany second place behind Austria and ahead of Norway.

For Raimund, these three jumps of

120.5

,

126 and 125 meters

in the team competition could

have been the winner after his recent consistently weak competition performances

.

It was thanks to him that the DSV team stayed in the race for victory for so long.

That gives us courage for jumping on Sunday

Nevertheless, the German team's team performance, especially in individual competitions, is almost a bit worrying after the strong start to the season.

In the first competitions in Lake Placid, only Andreas Wellinger made it

into the top ten

, Stephan Leyhe had to give up in the first round.

Now it's off to the last individual on American soil before the little trip around the world continues towards Japan.

The usual suspects such as

Andreas Wellinger

,

Stefan Kraft

,

Ryoyu Kobayashi

and Saturday's winner,

Lovro Kos

, are the favorites in this competition .

But there can always be surprises given the changeable wind conditions in Lake Placid.
