Will Maccabi Haifa be punished by deducting another point in practice?
Today (Sunday), the prosecutor of the soccer association announced that the club will be prosecuted for a fan riot under aggravated circumstances following the dozens of flares lit by the team's fans in the game against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
As I recall, when Maccabi Haifa was actually deducted a point at the beginning of the season, it was decided that "the conditional deduction of the extra point is also a deterrent for the fans and gives Maccabi Haifa an incentive and a last chance to systematically improve the fight against riots, as far as avoiding the actual deduction of the extra point. If The team's rioting fans will not come to their senses quickly and will not be able to change their ways, they may lead to the application of the conditional punishment and the reduction of the extra point."
Moreover, in the judgment of the Supreme Court panel on 11.9.23, it is written "The conditional sentence will apply if Maccabi Haifa is convicted of any offense of fan riot under aggravating circumstances during the period of one year from the date of this judgment".

According to the judge's report, "Dozens of flares were lit, in my estimation about 40 (that's the amount I managed to count until it went down).
One flare was even thrown into the goal area of Maccabi Haifa and caused the game to be stopped for a minute until the flare went out."
In addition, Maccabi Tel Aviv will be prosecuted for about 20 flares that were lit by its fans in the same game, but the flares remained in the stands and did not cause the game to be stopped, therefore the club will not be prosecuted under the circumstances stricter, except for a fan riot.
The hearings will be held on Wednesday 2/14/24 at 4:00 p.m.
