Kelvin Kiptum, the recent marathon world record holder, died at the age of 24 in a road accident in Kenya on the evening of February 11.
He was driving the vehicle which also took away his trainer Gervais Hakizimana.
Last October, the Kenyan ran the Chicago marathon in 2h00′35″, setting a staggering new world mark.
He was the big favorite for the Olympic marathon in Paris.

The native of the Keiyo district knew France well.
He took part in his first race outside Kenya in the Lion half-marathon, between Belfort and Montbéliard, in 2019. Yann Radreau was responsible for the international field of the race and had kept close contact with him.
