Nove Mesto – The Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic is in full swing, on the fifth day of the competition Janina Hettich-Walz surprisingly won the first medal for the German team.
Laura Dahlmeier, who ended her career in 2019, saw the DSV ski hunters' first victory off the track, as she traveled to the Biathlon World Cup as an expert for ZDF.
To do a young athlete a favor, she went to the cross-country ski trail herself the day before.

In her Instagram account, Dahlmeier wrote about a photo that shows her in action: “Race day, but not for all athletes.
If you are a reserve athlete, you need to stay focused and motivated in training for a possible race.
Maren Hammerschmidt and I know this situation well, which is why we had so much fun completing a few quick meters in the stadium with the young Johanna Puff.”
Johanna Puff was only used in the World Cup in Lenzerheide for the first time this season after the illness-related absences of Hanna Kebinger and Anna Weidel.
In Antholz, on her second start in the World Cup, the 21-year-old finished in the points for the first time with a 35th place in the short individual and was then nominated by the German Ski Association for the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mestro - but initially only as a reserve -athlete.

It must have been a great honor for Puff that Dahlmeier and Hammerschmidt, of all people, put on their skis to do a few laps with her.
Laura Dahlmeier won a total of seven World Championship gold medals, plus two Olympic gold medals and nine silver and bronze medals at World Championships.
Hammerschmidt commented on Dahlmeier's post with the words: "Like before Bro" and added a red heart to her comment.
Dahlmeier and Hammerschmidt competed in biathlon together for many years. In the spring of 2022, Hammerschmidt also hung up her skis and followed Dahlmeier into sporting retirement.
Now they were reunited on the trail at a Biathlon World Championships - but only for fun and without the pressure of competition.
