Lazio Rome has an 18-year-old goalkeeper playing for FC Bayern in the Champions League.
The youngster grew up in Munich.
Rome - A new name suddenly appeared in the FC Bayern squad for the Champions League game in Rome (0-1).
The 18-year-old keeper Max Schmitt was part of Munich's premier class squad for the first time in the first leg of the round of 16.
Max Schmitt: Teenager is in Bayern's Champions League squad
Schmitt is Bavaria's future hope in the goalkeeper position.
And that is very promising.
At the U-17 World Cup in 2023, he won the World Cup title with Germany in December.
Schmitt was in the German goal in the round of 16 against the USA (3:2) and in the quarterfinals against Spain (1:0).
In the summer he had already won the Junior European Championship with the U17s of the German Football Association (DFB).
Schmitt grew up in Munich and, according to
transfermarkt.de,
TSV München-Milbertshofen was his youth club.
A Munich player for Bayern?
This hasn't happened in the Allianz Arena and on Säbener Straße since Sandro Wagner.

Max Schmitt: Thomas Tuchel takes the young Bayern goalkeeper to Rome
Schmitt has been at the club since 2017 and normally plays in goal for Bayern in the U19 Bundesliga.
This season, Schmitt has already played twice in the Bavarian Regional League, where the second team of the German record champions competes.
He was already in the professional squad in the first round of the DFB Cup against Preußen Münster.
So now also in the premier class.
Schmitt is considered meticulous and willing to learn.
“Of course it’s easier for the players.
As a goalkeeper, it's all about analysis: you look at the shooter's last penalty.
Where did he shoot?
Are there any regularities?” he once said in an interview with
dfb.de
about his preparations for a penalty shootout.
Max Schmitt: Long-term contract for young goalkeeper at FC Bayern
In Rome on Wednesday evening (February 14th), Schmitt was the third goalkeeper after world champion Manuel Neuer and his representative Sven Ulreich.
A week earlier, the 1.89 meter tall keeper had been in goal in the Youth League against FC Basel (2-0), this time Schmitt was heading to the Italian capital.
Only in the summer did he extend his long-term contract until 2026, which shows that Bayern are planning for him in the future.
