Although considered a great hope for football, he will not have kept all his… promises.

Dutch international Quincy Promes has just been sentenced to six years in prison after the discovery of vast drug trafficking in which he took part.

Suspected of being at the head of the organization, the Spartak Moscow striker had allowed, with another man who was given the same sentence, to import and export more than 700 kg of cocaine between Suriname, Belgium and the Netherlands, by investing nearly 200,000 euros in transport.

These events took place between 2018 and 2020.

After carefully investigating the 32-year-old footballer, the police managed to access telephone recordings and conversations that the Dutchman conducted on encrypted messaging to serve his traffic.

The prosecution initially requested nine years in prison for the player, who continues to deny the facts and should appeal, as his lawyer announced after the deliberation.

Currently playing in Russia at Spartak Moscow, Promes did not attend his court summons.

Justice fears that the culprit will not report to law enforcement.

“The court finds that the reason of risk of flight applies.

The suspect resides in Russia, where he works as a professional footballer.

He did not show up for police questioning and did not appear at court hearings, the court record says.

The court understands that the suspect chose this option because he does not want to be arrested and no longer be able to fulfill his obligations as a professional footballer.

One sentence that calls for another

Already prosecuted for other offenses previously, the Dutch international winger was sentenced last June to serve a first sentence of 18 months in prison for assault, after a fight dating back to 2020, during which he stabbed his cousin in a knee.

The Amsterdam native was playing for Ajax at the material time.

He returned at the beginning of 2021 to Spartak Moscow, where he had already played four seasons from 2014 to 2018. He played in the Euro in June 2021 with the Oranje, with the status of substitute, but has not been selected since.
