Highlights: Thanks to Leandro Morgalla and Co.: Rain of money from the DFB for the NLZ of TSV 1860 Munich. The club receives 648,000 euros from the 3rd league's youth funding pot. This much has never been paid out to a single club since the youth Funding pot was introduced. TSV 1860 Munich can look forward to a decent sum of money.

The club receives 648,000 euros from the 3rd league's youth funding pot.

Munich – The payment of the amount from the 3rd league’s youth funding pot for the 2022/23 season has been determined.

The distribution did not take place in September 2023 as usual.

Due to an objection by one of the clubs to the calculation, the totals for the individual clubs had to be recalculated.

For sixty, the recalculation was worth it.

In the summer there was talk of “only” 475,000 euros, but now the club is receiving an impressive 648,000 euros.

This much has never been paid out to a single club since the youth funding pot was introduced.

Appearances by Leandro Morgalla, Marius Wörl and Niklas Lang in the 3rd league

The club has already won large amounts of money in recent years.

The Lions are in first place for the third time in four years.

“The money will benefit our NLZ,” Manfred Paula, head of the BayWa Junglöwen youth training center, is quoted as saying on the club’s website.

Legally, it can't be any different, because according to the DFB regulations, the money from the youth funding pot must be used in the clubs to promote young talent.

The reason why the Lions are paid so much money is mainly due to the appearances of the then U21 players Leandro Morgalla, Marius Wörl and Niklas Lang in the 2022/23 season.

U21 national player Morgalla made 31 third division appearances for the Lions in the season in question.

He has since moved to RB Salzburg.

The 19-year-old already played there in the Champions League against Real Sociedad.

In the Austrian Bundesliga, however, it has only been enough for three appearances so far.

His contract with the Austrians runs until summer 2028. In total, his move will bring the Lions up to 3.5 million euros.

Further surcharges are possible.

Wörl is no longer there either – current U21 Lions hardly get a chance

Morgalla's ex-colleague and U20 national player Wörl, who is currently on loan at Arminia Bielefeld from Hannover 96, made 18 appearances (one goal). The third in the league, Lang, was used 15 times.

He is still under contract with TSV 1860 Munich, but moved to SC Freiburg's reserves on loan in the winter.

A look at the current season shows that the payouts for the 2023/24 season will be significantly lower for the sixties.

The U21 players in the first team squad, Milos Cocic, Tim Kloss, Moritz Bangerter and Devin Sür, have received little or no appearances so far this season.

Background of the 3rd league youth funding pot

The 3rd League youth funding pot has existed in its current form since 2018. Previously, every club in the 3rd League received a flat rate of 50,000 euros (excluding second teams) per year from the DFB.

The young talent funding pot supports the promotion of young German talent.

The following regulations have been in place since 2018: The presence of an NLZ at third division clubs (regardless of the regular funding of the NLZ by the DFB) is compensated with 100,000 euros, excluding second teams.

In addition, the NLZ are categorized, which leads to additional income for the clubs.

Another criterion is the playing times of U21 players in the 3rd league who have German citizenship.

The DFB also has a special calculation for this.
