Drammen – Norwegian football is in shock: Ex-professional Mounir Hamoud died at the age of just 39 as a result of a cardiac arrest.
This was announced by the Norwegian first division club Strømsgodset IF.
The club says goodbye to its long-time player in an emotional statement.

“This is brutal and shocking news.
With Mounir we have lost a truly unique fellow human being.
He was kind, generous, inclusive and positive,” the statement said.
Hamoud was someone “who cared and participated.
Someone we were all looking forward to, someone we all have nothing but good and warm feelings for.”
The death is particularly tragic because the Moroccan was actually supposed to take up his new job as “top player developer” at the club.
After his active career as a player, he was responsible for talent development at the Norwegian Association for several years.

“Brutal and shocking news”: Club says an emotional farewell
The association expressed special condolences to Hamoud's wife and the couple's five children.
“Our thoughts are primarily with Mounir’s family and the bereaved, who find themselves in a very difficult situation.
“You have lost a father, husband, brother, son and a dear family member,” the club wrote.
In order to support the family during their mourning, the association called for a fundraising campaign, in which several hundred people took part in just a few hours.
Almost 20,000 euros were collected within one day.
Hamoud was a crowd favorite at Strømsgodset
Hamoud played a total of 349 competitive games for Lyn FK, Bodo/Glimt and Strømsgodset IF in his career.
The full-back played for the latter for the last eight years of his career.
In 2013 he won the Norwegian championship and became a crowd favorite in the following years.
Hamoud also played for various Norwegian U-national teams, including appearing seven times for the U21s.
“Monir, above all, left a deep mark wherever he traveled.
As a player and teammate, as a coach, player developer and professional.
As a colleague and fellow human being.
Strømsgodset is in mourning.
We will miss Mounir Hamoud very much,” it says at the end of his club’s heartbreaking statement.
