Former player and coach Sinisha Mihailovic passed away in December 2022 at the age of only 53 after a battle with leukemia.
Three months earlier and when he was already ill, he was fired from his position as Bologna coach, and in an interview with the Italian "Il Massagero", his widow revealed that the team paid his salary until the end of the contract in 2023, that is, about six months after his death.
"Sinisha didn't expect the dismissal and didn't take it well. He didn't want to resign, but to fight. Bologna made a different decision and I can't judge them," said Ariana Mihailovic in an interview, "They paid his salary until the end of the contract. It's an unusual step he took I'm sure in this period."

"They never forgot me in Bologna," continued the Serb's widow, "it's a special club and a special city. They were in our hearts even before the illness, and then it became a great love. There were amazing people by our side during the weeks in the hospital and when it was difficult in football."
Mihailovich also admitted that she is using a therapist to deal with the loss: "There are difficult moments, but I overcome them thanks to the help of my children."
Mihajlovic was a prominent player in the Yugoslavia national team in the 1990s.
After winning the European Champions Cup with Red Star Belgrade in 1991, he continued his career in Italy and played in Serie A for 14 years.
Mihailovic, who was known for his excellent free kicks, went on to a coaching career, mostly in Italy, when he coached Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Milan and as mentioned Bologna, among others.
