Conclusion:

Eintracht shows two faces in the playoff first leg against Saint-Gilloise: In the first half, Chaibi and Kalajdzic ensure a dream start after ten minutes and the deserved 2-0 lead.

Only the completely unnecessary goal after an individual mistake by Skhiri brought the hosts on the scene, who up until then had hardly been able to set any playful accents.

In the second half, the Hessians completely dismantle and are inferior in almost all respects.

Consequently, Saint-Gilloise deserves the equalizer.

Even when Eintracht outnumbered Vanhoutte in the last 15 minutes after yellow-red, there were no good chances.

Ultimately, the Toppmöller team can be happy that they didn't fall behind and took the 2-2 score into the second leg in Frankfurt.

There needs to be a different face there in a week than in the second half, otherwise it will hardly be possible to make it to the round of 16.

The game is over.

Saint-Gilloise and Eintracht Frankfurt draw 2-2!

90th + 4 minutes:

Lindner gets a yellow card in the Saint-Gilloise goal because of time play.

At Eintracht, Max comes into play for Nkounkou and manages to finish after a cross, but it is too central.

90th + 3 minutes:

Despite being outnumbered, Saint-Gilloise continues to play courageously forward, but can no longer get behind the last Frankfurt chain.

Eintracht are no longer taking full risks here either and will probably want to take the 2-2 scoreline with them into the second leg in Frankfurt.

90th minute:

There are five minutes of injury time.

89th minute:

Despite the majority, Eintracht cannot generate any pressure offensively.

It's a very weak second half, which will annoy coach Toppmöller.

85th minute:

Chaibi also justifiably gets a yellow card after elbowing Mac Allister.

The defender has to be treated with a bloody lip and even replaced.

Teklab comes into play for him

84th minute:

Saint-Gilloise continues the game and keeps Eintracht far away from their own goal.

Apart from a half-chance from Ekitike, the SGE did not pose a threat to the goal in the second half.

82nd minute:

Buta has to foul Amoura on the halfway line after a technical error and is shown a yellow card.

80th minute:

Nilsson leaves the pitch and celebrates after his equalizer.

Eckert comes into the game for the last ten minutes.

78th minute:

Vanhoutte is sent off with a yellow-red card!

This is a very tough decision against the hosts.

Skhiri shoots at Vanhoutte's arm from close range and referee Craig Dawson sends the midfielder off the pitch.

For the last few minutes, Eintracht is now in the majority!

It was by no means undeserved that Saint-Gilloise made it 2-2 in the 68th minute.

Eintracht Frankfurt has pretty much lost the thread at this point, the expression on Ellyes Skhiri's face speaks volumes.

74th minute:

Saint-Gilloise's next goal.

Rasmussen takes the shot from a tight angle, but Trapp is able to hold on safely.

71st minute:

How are Eintracht dealing with this equalizer?

First of all, the Hessians have to be careful not to fall behind here.

Amoura finishes again, but Koch is able to block.

Saint-Gilloise against Eintracht Frankfurt: Hosts deserve to equalize

68th minute:

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR for Saint-Gilloise!

There is the deserved compensation for the hosts.

Amoura plays to Rasmussen in the penalty area, who brilliantly chips the ball into the path of Nilsson.

The striker then cleverly puts the ball past the rushing Trapp.

The hit has become apparent.

65th minute:

It's almost shocking how weak Eintracht has performed so far in the second half.

The SGE is not taking place offensively yet.

Toppmöller is now reacting and bringing in new signing Hugo Ekitike for Sasa Kalajdzic.

Sebastian Rode also comes into play for Götze.

Ekitike immediately joins in with a decent chance with a header.

However, the ball goes over the goal.

62nd minute:

Nilsson again!

The striker receives the ball on his chest in the penalty area and hits a half-volley straight to Trapp, who is able to parry the ball.

Next good chance for Saint-Gilloise.

61st minute:

Eintracht can hardly escape the pressure from the hosts.

Saint-Gilloise continues to work on the equalizer.

Another free kick from around 20 meters from the right side comes dangerously into the box.

But Koch can clarify things with his head.

57th minute:

That actually has to be the equalizer!

After a free kick from the right, Nilsson comes free to head the ball from five meters and puts the ball over Kevin Trapp's box.

Eintracht was very lucky there.

The Hessians are wobbling a lot here.

56th minute:

Saint-Gilloise took control of the game in the first ten minutes after the break.

Amoura comes to the next conclusion, which is no problem for Trapp.

Eintracht loses the ball a lot and can hardly keep the ball in their own ranks.

54th minute:

After a duel with Lapoussin, Robin Koch remains on the ground and has to be treated.

But it continues.

52nd minute:

The Belgians' top striker, Amoura, needs treatment.

That's why the ball is at rest right now.

49th minute:

Eintracht has to be careful not to concede the equalizer.

The hosts first come dangerously into the penalty area from the right, and a few seconds later from the left.

First Trapp and then Koch can just clear the crosses.

47th minute:

Saint-Gilloise comes out of the break well!

The hosts come through on the right.

The ball is played well into the backcourt, where Puertas shoots from the edge of the box, but Skhiri just throws his body into the ball. The finish would have been dangerous.

46th minute:

Dino Toppmöller reacted during the break.

Ansgar Knauff comes on for Tuta.

Defensively, the SGE is now playing with a back four.

It goes on!

The 2nd half begins.

Half-time conclusion:

Eintracht goes into the break with a 2-1 lead after a wild first half.

Chaibi and Kalajdzic got the game off to a dream start with their goals in the 3rd and 10th minutes respectively.

In the first half hour the SGE is superior in all respects and dominates the game.

In the 31st minute, the goal came out of nowhere and completely without necessity, after an individual mistake by Skhiri in the build-up game.

Saint-Gilloise now smells his chance.

Frankfurt has to be careful not to concede the equalizer in the second half.

See you soon!

Half time!

Referee Craig Pawson blows the whistle for the first half.

45th minute:

There are two minutes of added time.

44th minute:

It's a disjointed game at the moment.

Eintracht lost track after conceding a goal.

Especially offensively, apart from Marmoush's chance a few minutes ago after the lightning start, there wasn't much going on.

41st minute:

The next good chance for Eintracht almost out of nowhere.

An actually harmless, half-high cross slips through to Marmoush, who is free to head the ball in the six-yard box.

Lindner in the guests' goal is able to parry the ball well, also because Marmoush himself was probably surprised that the ball ended up with him.

40th minute:

Eintracht has to shake itself after the goal and tries to calm the game down.

Saint-Gilloise, on the other hand, was naturally given a boost by the goal.

The Belgians are always combining well through the chains of unity.

37th minute:

Violent protests from Saint-Gilloise.

After a corner from Eintracht, the counterattack is underway for the hosts.

Nkounkou comes too late against Amoura in the center circle, but referee Craig Pawson claims no foul play has been recognized.

35th minute:

Vanhoutte puts Götze in midfield and sees the first yellow card of the game.

Saint-Gilloise against Eintracht Frankfurt in the live ticker: slapstick goal conceded by the SGE

31st minute: GOOOOOOOOOOR for Saint-Gilloise!

A very bitter goal for Eintracht and completely unnecessarily.

The Hessians are started early.

Skhiri steps into the grass in his own penalty area instead of in front of the ball. Amoura takes advantage of the mistake and picks up the ball, passes it back to Rasmussen, who only has to push in from around five meters centrally.

Avoidable goal for Eintracht, who repeatedly tried to playfully free themselves from the high counter-pressing.

In this case it goes wrong and Saint-Gilloise punishes him coldly.

28th minute:

Eintracht has around 60 percent possession of the ball in the first half hour and dominates the opponent in all aspects.

24th minute:

Fares Chabibi plays a fantastic game here.

Buta puts the ball on him in the penalty area and the Algerian shoots straight away.

Almost 3-0, but Linder can direct the ball to the corner.

Shortly after the corner it becomes dangerous again.

Nkounkou plays a nice pass behind the chain on the right side and Kalajdzic comes free from the edge of the box to finish, but misses clearly.

22nd minute

: Despite the high pressing, Eintracht repeatedly tries to break away from the defense in a playful way, which doesn't work in this case.

The hosts react quickly and hit a good cross into the middle.

The header from around 10 meters just missed Kevin Trapp's box.

18th minute:

Saint-Gilloise doesn't pose any threat to score in these first 20 minutes.

After a risky pass from Tuta in midfield, the Belgians come up with a somewhat dangerous counterattack.

However, the conclusion comes much too hastily and gets stuck on Koch's leg.

15th minute:

After the dream start, Eintracht are now playing with a big chest and are pushing the ball to their own ranks in a controlled manner.

The hosts, on the other hand, are not getting into the game at all and even have to be careful not to get completely under the wheels in the first half.

Saint-Gilloise against Eintracht Frankfurt in the live ticker: Chaibi and Kalajdzic ensure a dream start

10th minute: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR for Eintracht Frankfurt!

What a dream start for the SGE and thanks to a picture-perfect counterattack!

Saint-Gilloise loses the ball in the Eintracht penalty area after a corner and then things happen very quickly.

Marmoush passes at full speed on the half-right side to Chaibi, who passes the ball to Kalajdzic in the penalty area.

The new addition then only has to push in from 10 meters.

Dream start successful!

5th minute:

This is of course a very cold shower for the hosts, who have big plans here.

For Eintracht, however, it is the tailor-made start they want.

The Hessians take the lead with their first shot on goal.

3rd minute:

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR for Eintracht Frankfurt!

Fares Chaibi takes the early lead for Eintracht!

Nknounkou gets the ball on the left side and leaves two Belgians in the box.

Kalajdzic finds his flat pass into the middle.

His shot is blocked, but Chaibi is in the right position and just has to push the ball over the line from close range.

Union Saint-Gilloise against Eintracht Frankfurt in the live ticker: Trapp back in the SGE goal

Update from February 15th, 5:34 p.m.:

Eintracht Frankfurt's lineup is here!

Kevin Trapp is back in the starting lineup after back problems.

In defense, Toppmöller relies on the usual three-man chain with Robin Koch, Tuta and Willian Pacho.

Mario Götze and Ellyes Skhiri should pull the strings in central midfield.

On the offensive, Toppmöller relies on a dual leadership of Omar Marmoush and Sasa Kalajdzic.

Behind it, Fares Chaibi is supposed to provide creative moments.

First report from February 15th, 4:37 p.m.:

Brussels – International football nights are on the program again for Eintracht Frankfurt!

However, after the Hessians missed out on winning their Conference League group before the winter break, they now have to take the detour via the playoff round.

With the Belgian league leaders Union Saint-Gilloise, coach Dino Toppmöller's team faces an unpleasant opponent.

Conference League playoffs: Eintracht Frankfurt has to play at Union Saint-Gilloise

Not only is Saint Gilloise leading the Belgian Jupiler Pro League by a large margin, “Les Unionistes” have also caused a sensation on the European stage this season.

In the Europa League, German coach Alexander Blessin's team defeated the great Liverpool FC 2-1 at home.

It was only enough for third place in the group, which is why the Belgians are now playing in the Conference League.

Toppmöller knows how difficult the task is.

“Now it’s battle mode.

A hot dance awaits us,” said the coach on Wednesday evening after arriving in Brussels.

The recently injured Kevin Trapp and Omar Marmoush can also help.

Both were able to take part in the final training session on Wednesday.

Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe is also back in the squad after a muscle injury.

Toppmöller could still surprise with his lineup.

Eintracht playoff duel against Saint-Gilloise: Game feels “special” for Toppmöller

The SGE coach also pointed out the special nature of games at European level.

“It feels special.

Everyone who knows and has followed the club knows that international nights are something special for this club,” said Toppmöller.

“We want to seize the opportunity to extend and enjoy this festive season even further.”

Toppmöller considers it a privilege that the team can now compete in the knockout round of the competition.

This now needs to be recognized with a courageous performance.

“It's hard work to qualify for Europe.

You have to work for a whole season to be able to play internationally, and now we can,” said the 43-year-old.
