The 2024 Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto continued on Saturday.

The two seasons were coming up.

While the women were able to celebrate a medal, the men narrowly missed out.

Nove Mesto - The

2024 Biathlon World Championships

really got down to business on Saturday.

A long day of biathlon began with a medal for the DSV women.

The men finished just off the podium in Sweden's dramatic victory.

The men's relay narrowly missed Germany's fourth medal at the 2024 Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto.

Justus Strelow, Johannes Kühn, Philipp Nawrath

and

Benedikt Doll finished

fourth

in the 4x7.5 kilometer race on Saturday

.

It was the first season of the current season in which the DSV men did not make it onto the podium.

Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto: Strelow with strong performance - Norway throws away gold

The Swedish team

became world champions completely unexpectedly

.

Top favorite

Norway

looked like the sure winner until the last shooting.

Then final runner Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen completely dismantled it.

He had to run

three penalty laps

and Sweden passed.

Viktor Brandt, Jesper Nelin, Martin Ponsiluoma

and

Sebastian Samuelsson

won ahead of Norway and France.

The German squadron came away empty-handed after a courageous fight.

Starting runner

Strelow

started like the much-quoted fire department.

The 27-year-old shot quickly and confidently,

clearing everything while standing and lying down

.

He had slight deficits in his running and handed over to

Kühn

in the leading group .

He needed a reloader while lying down, but had major problems in the subsequent standing shooting.

He had to go into the

penalty loop

and the German quartet fell back.

In

seventh place

he handed over to Nawrath.

Biathlon World Cup on Saturday: Nawrath strong - Doll fails in standing shooting

But the medals were still within reach.

With a faultless prone shooting,

Nawrath

brought the German team further forward.

While standing, he only needed one spare and handed over

to Doll after a

strong performance .

The Black Forester hit everything while lying down, but when standing he made a mistake.

The competition made few mistakes and

Doll

had to

reload three times

.

He was no longer able to compensate for the deficit on the final lap.

Biathlon World Cup today in the live ticker: Schneider secures bronze for the DSV women

The German biathletes won bronze in the relay at the World Championships in Nove Mesto, securing the German team their third medal.

Despite the short-term absence of the ill final runner

Franziska Preuß

(29) ,

Janina Hettich-Walz

(27), World Cup debutant

Selina Grotian

(19),

Vanessa Voigt

(26) and the late nominee

Sophia Schneider

(26) celebrated this success somewhat surprisingly on Saturday.

A year after taking silver at the home World Championships in Oberhof, the DSV quartet had nine spares and were only beaten by

France

and

Sweden

.

The French started as the top favorites.

After

two penalties from Sophie Chauveau

, who started as the second runner, the team was already far behind.

Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Julia Simon then made good use of their potential and still won gold.

Lou Jeanmonnot started the race as the starting runner.

Biathlon World Cup in the live ticker today: Material is causing frustration again

Silver went to Sweden,

followed by Germany, after a roller coaster ride, who finally got the medal they had hoped for.

Two and a half hours before the start of the race,

the German Ski Association informed about Preuß' failure.

It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old, who is suffering from a “new

sore throat

,” will be able to take part in the mass start on Sunday.

Schneider stepped in and led the team as the final runner from fifth to third place, although individual runner-up Hettich-Walz in particular had problems on the cross-country ski trail.

“For me it was a combination of everything,” said the starting runner.

“There were places where it was salty.

I

really struggled with my skis

and then I didn't have the best day either.

I don't have any words right now."

Grotian performed well in her first World Cup season and kept the team on track.

Voigt again had major problems on the track

and handed over to Schneider in fifth place.

She stayed cool during her surprising effort and secured the medal after a wild race.

The entire result

Biathlon World Cup on Saturday: The live ticker for the men's relay

Race:

Who will secure silver here?

It will be Norway.

Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen intercepts Quentin Fillon Maillet and takes second place.

Benedikt Doll crosses the finish line in fourth place.

Race:

Sweden will still secure the gold medal here.

Sebastian Samuelsson brings the race to a confident end here after his strong shooting performance.

Race:

Christiansen has almost closed the gap on Fillon Maillet here.

It will be a fight for the silver medal here.

So far the Frenchman is still ahead.

Race:

Can Benedikt Doll get close to Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen again here?

After the first intermediate time there will probably be no medal because his gap is growing.

Race:

Sebastian Samuelsson takes advantage of the Norwegians' weakness, hits all the targets and passes Norway.

Benedikt Doll needs three spares, while Fillon Maillet uses his first spare.

Race:

Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen now comes to his last shooting.

If he keeps his nerve here, the Norwegians are guaranteed gold.

However, he misses the first target and leaves three in total.

He has to go into the penalty loop three times.

That's crazy

Race:

Benedikt Doll, on the other hand, is struggling to keep up with Fillon Maillet.

The French skis seem to run a little better than the Germans.

Race:

The Norwegians are racing towards their next gold medal here.

A lot would have to go wrong at the shooting range for things to get tight here.

Race:

The Swede needs two spares himself and has to keep going.

Benedikt Doll and Quentin Fillon Maillet both score five times and go on their second round together.

Race:

Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen has reached his first shooting and is doing very well.

He clears all the targets before Sebastian Samuelsson has even reached the shooting range.

Race:

And Quentin Fillon Maillet comes charging from behind and now even passes Benedikt Doll.

Race:

Christiansen was able to maintain his lead over Sebastian Samuelsson.

It's still 30 seconds.

Behind him, however, Benedikt Doll lost almost ten seconds to Samuelsson.

Race:

Philipp Nawrath has now also completed his race.

Completely exhausted, he hands over to Benedikt Doll.

The gap to Norway is almost a minute.

However, Sweden is still within reach.

Race:

Johannes Thingnes Boe finishes his race here at full speed.

He hands over to Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen with a big lead over Sweden.

Race:

Emilien Jacquelin, on the other hand, has to reload twice.

The Frenchman returns to the track in seventh place.

Despite three penalties, the gap to Germany is still relatively small.

Race:

But Philipp Nawrath also shows really good shooting here.

He has to reload once and goes on his last lap with the Czech

Race:

Now the Norwegian has reached his last shooting and he is once again showing one of his typical rapid-fire performances.

He clears all five targets and stays in front.

Poniluoma follows with a spare.

Race:

Johannes Thingnes Boe continues to confidently lead the race ahead of Martin Ponsiluoma.

Behind him is the Czech Jonas Marecek.

Race:

Philipp Nawrath shoots a really strong series in his first attempt.

He stayed clear and went into his second round in fourth place.

Race:

Boe is first at the shooting range.

He leaves two targets standing, but clears them with his spares and is the first to go back onto the track.

The Czech Republic and Sweden also need extra shots, but then follow the Norwegian at some distance.

Race:

At the front, Johannes Thingnes Boe runs his laps alone.

The Czech Republic and Sweden are almost 30 seconds behind.

Race:

Philipp Nawrath is around 50 seconds behind Johannes Thingnes Boe.

So everything is still possible for the German team.

Race:

Johannes Kühn has now finished his race and is handing over to Philipp Nawrath in seventh place.

Race:

What a race from Tarjei Boe!

He had taken over in twelfth place and is now handing over the lead to his brother Johannes Thingnes Boe.

Race:

Tarjei Boe has now taken the lead.

Krcmar can't keep up.

Race:

Michal Krcmar from the Czech Republic does better, coming through without any mistakes.

Vladislav Kireyev from Kazakhstan also hits all five targets.

Tarjei Boe has to reload twice and returns to the track in third place.

Race:

The fourth shooting is coming up.

Johannes Kühn is the third to go to the shooting range.

But the first shot goes right wide, it takes three spare rounds for Kühn.

But the first reloader also misses.

In the end it's a penalty loop.

Race:

Now Nelin and Boe have closed the gap.

There is now a quartet at the top.

They run together towards the shooting range.

Race:

It is now a duo of Johannes Kühn and Michael Krcmar at the front, followed by the Swede Jesper Nelin.

Tarjei Boe follows behind.

Race:

Fabien Claude, on the other hand, probably had to pay tribute to his fast lap.

He has to go into the penalty loop twice.

Tarjei Boe, on the other hand, made no mistakes and has already fought his way up to sixth place.

Race:

We come to the third shooting.

Johannes Kühn shows a good series here, but has to reload once.

However, he hits it directly and is the first to go out again.

The Czech Republic and Sweden follow closely behind.

Race:

Fabien Claude is getting closer and closer.

The Frenchman has already caught up by almost ten seconds.

Race:

The group of four, consisting of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Kazakhstan and Germany, is further ahead here.

However, Jesper Nelin for Sweden, Tarjei Boe and Fabien Claude come sprinting from behind.

Race:

Despite the penalty laps, the French and Norwegians are far from out of the race here.

Fabien Claude will now take over for France.

Tarjei Boe is now on the track for the Norwegian team.

Race:

Now comes the first change.

Justus Strelow hands over to Johannes Kühn in fourth place.

Race:

Justus Strelow does a really good race here.

He continues to lead ahead of the Czech Tomas Mikyska and the Kazakh Alexandr Mukhin.

The Estonian Rene Zahkna is also still part of the leading group.

Race:

And Eric Perrot also has to do an extra lap.

Viktor Brandt from Sweden needs two spares and is sixth.

Race:

The second shooting is coming up.

The wind at the shooting range has increased slightly.

Again it is Justus Strelow who scores the first goal and again he goes through without a mistake.

Laegreid needs two spares, but misses two of them and has to go into the penalty loop once.

Race:

Now Sturla Holm Laegreid passes Strelow again.

But the German stays tuned.

It's a group of six that are going full throttle here at the front.

Race:

Justus Strelow is still leading the field at the first intermediate time.

However, the distances are still very small.

Race:

Sturla Holm Laegreid returns to the track in ninth place with one spare.

Eric Perrrot has to reload three times and is now 16th.

Race:

We come to the first shooting of this competition.

Strelow scores the first goal and is also the first to go back with five goals.

Brandt also remains error-free.

Norway and France have to reload.

Race:

Justus Strelow is coming into the race well.

He is hanging on to Sturla Holm Laegreid and is currently second.

Race:

This opens the men's relay in Nove Mesto.

Justus Strelow is the starting runner for the German team.

Before the race:

It starts here in Nove Mesto in a few minutes.

The atmosphere in the arena is still outstanding.

Before the race:

A total of 24 nations are starting here today.

Before the race:

Sweden sends Viktor Brandt, Jesper Nelin, Martin Ponsiluoma and Sebastian Samuelsson into the race.

Before the race:

Eric Perrot, Fabien Claude, Emilien Jacquelin and Quentin Fillon Maillet are competing for France.

Before the race:

The Norwegians are the absolute favorites this season.

They go into the competition with Sturla Holm Laegreid, Tarjei Boe, Johannes Thingnes Boe and Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen.

Before the race:

The German men will compete in the following line-up: Justus Strelow will open the race, followed by Johannes Kühn and Philipp Nawrath, before Benedikt Doll will finish the relay.

Before the race:

So let's come to today's second relay race.

Each of the four starters has to cover 7.5 kilometers.

That could be bronze.

Race

: Sweden has to go into the penalty loop.

However, she leaves three slices standing.

This is the opportunity for Sweden.

Race

: Justine Braisaz-Bouchet has already overcome the deficit with a fabulous run and is now in fourth place ahead of Vanessa Voigt after a faultless shooting.

Race

: The group of three from Estonia, Sweden and Norway come together to shoot.

All three need a spare, Vannesa Voigt also needs an extra shot.

Race

: Selina Grotian delivers a really strong standing shooting here and puts Germany back on the podium with five goals.

Race

: Tuuli Tomingas from Estonia is now the first to arrive at the shooting range.

She has to reload once, like Linn Persson.

However, the Estonian hits her first spare and remains in the lead.

Norway and Sweden are following suit.

Race

: Janina Hettich-Walz also confirmed the fears in the interview that German skis simply cannot keep up with the competition today.

Everything has to go right at the shooting range today so that a medal is possible.

Race

: Selina Grotian has to reload three times.

This again costs a lot of time.

She returns to the track in ninth place.

Offigstad Knotten also has to fire one more shot.

Neun Grad herrschen hier in Tschechien.

But a medal is not a sure-fire success.

The French women are the absolute top favorites.

They dominated the previous Biathlon World Championships and ensured that

France surprisingly led the medal table ahead of Norway

.

This is also due to the weakness of the Norwegian women, who have so far performed below expectations, but are still medal candidates.

This also applies to Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.

Biathlon World Cup in the live ticker: Men's medal is mandatory, line-up is set

The pressure situation is much greater for men.

The German men ran four relays this season and made it to the podium four times.

In the first two races it was third place, the last two seasons the DSV quartet finished in second place.

The superiority from Norway was even

on the verge of defeat at one point

.

National coach Uros Velepec has

nominated

Justus Strelow, Johannes Kühn, Benedikt Doll and runner-up Philipp Nawrath .

Strelow showed a good performance at the shooting range in the single mixed relay on Thursday, Kühn is having a consistent season and Doll has a lot of self-confidence after winning the bronze medal in the individual.

As a strong runner, Nawrath completes the lineup.

France dominates among the women, Norway shines among the men.

The Scandinavians won eight of nine possible individual medals.

They have

won all relays this season

and are the absolute favorites on Saturday.

In addition to Germany, Sweden, Italy and France are other medal candidates.
