Vanessa Voigt and the German biathletes impress in the individual World Cup race.

After the race there is a strange interview scene.

Nove Mesto – “This is very hard.

I really had to fight back tears because you work your ass off all year long - and then something like that comes to a climax," said Vanessa Voigt in an ARD interview after the pursuit at the Biathlon World Cup.

Two days later, the German biathlete was close to tears again - but after the individual race they were to be tears of joy.

German biathletes celebrate resurrection at the Biathlon World Cup

The German biathletes had previously reported back with an impressive team performance.

Voigt was the first German to start the race with start number four and scored 20 goals on 20 shots.

Janina Hettich-Walz and Selina Grotian followed suit and the German resurrection was perfect.

After previously disappointing World Cup appearances, Hettich-Walz impressed in second place, World Cup debutant Grotian in fourth and the emotional Voigt in fifth.

“It’s simply indescribable,” said the 26-year-old in an ARD interview after the race, which only takes place in the evening at the World Championships: “I’m incredibly proud of the girls.

I have to shed tears again – but of joy.”

ARD reporter and Voigt surprised by the quick start to the interview

The beginning of the interview was quite strange.

While the race was still going on, the biathlete appeared at ARD reporter Christian Dexne, who was visibly surprised by the quick start.

While the two were already in the picture, the reporter asked the camera: “Is it starting?

We are here?

Yes, we are here.”

Voigt, who had been confronted with hate messages days before, smiled away at the obvious faux pas and appeared relieved in the subsequent interview.

Later that evening, both Dexne and Voigt reposted a meme that addressed the reporter's faux pas.

What you can see on it: A person in a swimming pool who is trying not to sink using swimming rings and water wings.

The site wrote: “Dexi during the interview with Vanessa Voigt – I’m not ready.”

Dexne himself added a screenshot of the interview scene to the montage, with the reporter screaming for “help.”

A sign that he was actually surprised by the quick start to the interview earlier.

In the end, both he and Voigt were able to laugh about it.

The end of an all-round perfect German World Cup day.
