Nove Mesto - One last big appearance and that's it - but only for this season: Dorothea Wierer has announced that she will be calling it quits this winter immediately after the Biathlon World Championships.
The women's relay on Sunday in Nove Mesto is her last race.
Dorothea Wierer is ending her season after the Biathlon World Championships – “but it’s not a farewell”
There have been rumors for some time now that the now 33-year-old could soon end her career.
However, your end to the season is by no means the same as a permanent farewell.
The South Tyrolean wrote on Instagram: “It was hard.
But it’s not goodbye.” She added a wink emoji.
In exactly two years the last days of the 2026 Olympic Games will take place. They will be held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
For a long time it was assumed in the scene that Wierer would take this highlight with her at the end of her career - and then call it a day after the games in her home country.
In the past, she herself has repeatedly fueled the rumor mill.

Wierer's most recent statements, which she made shortly before the Biathlon World Cup in February 2024, suggested that everything could be over after this season: “I have made my decision.
Only me and my husband Stefano know her.
I made this decision right now during my break.
At the end of the season I will reveal them, but for now I’m not saying anything.”
Her Instagram announcement, which has now been published, refutes the assumption that her career will end immediately - the confusion continues.
But Wierer presented some news.
She announced that she would be an expert at the Paris Olympics this summer.

At Eurosport she will then “talk about the Olympics in the summer as a winter athlete,” she explained in her post.
Already an anticipation because she will be there again as an expert at the 2026 Olympics?
