The swimmer Anastasia Gorbenko made history this evening (Sunday) on the soil of Qatar, when she won a silver medal at the World Championships and recorded the greatest achievement of Israeli swimming ever.
The 20-year-old Gorbenko led almost the entire length of the race and at the end set a new Israeli record with 4:37.36 minutes, which was enough for the prestigious second place in the 400 meter individual medley and a historic silver medal.
When Gorbenko was interviewed in the hall, a few seconds after the historic achievement, the audience in the hall in Doha who heard her on loudspeakers reacted with scathing contempt.
"I am very happy to be here, to represent Midna in difficult times. Being with the Israeli flag is worth a lot," said Gorbenko, who handled the situation well despite the scorn from the local audience.
