Highlights: David Aubry came within 24 hundredths of silver in the 1500m freestyle. The Frenchman had already won a bronze medal in the 800 meters freestyle in 2019. The Irishman Daniel Wiffen won his second gold medal of the World Championships. Mélanie Henique came second behind Sarah Sjöström in the 50m butterfly. She is the first Frenchwoman to win a medal at these World Championships in Doha. The French team won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

What a performance from David Aubry!

Entered in the final of the 1500 meter freestyle, the Frenchman won a superb bronze medal, just 24 hundredths behind the German Florian Wellbrock, who held up perfectly in the final sprint.

The Irishman Daniel Wiffen, alone in the lead from the first lengths, achieved his personal best and won his second gold medal of his World Championships in Doha, after having already won the 800 meters freestyle.

This is not David Aubry's first world medal.

In 2019, in Gwangju, South Korea, the Frenchman had already won bronze, this time in the 800-meter freestyle, breaking the French record in the process.

This Sunday, he could have afforded another metal, silver, but his final sprint was not enough to overtake Florian Wellbrock.

“It was very close in the 50 meters,” he admitted.

Daniel (Wiffen) had a great race, I'm super happy to finish on the podium.

This Saturday, Mélanie Henique brought the first medal to the French team in these World Championships in Doha.

Second behind legend Sarah Sjöström in the 50m butterfly, the Frenchwoman reached her third podium at the World Championships.

“I’m ready for the Olympic Games,” she said after her race.
