The mood in the Leipzig Arena was not as usual. There were reasons for that.

A fan died in the stadium during the Bundesliga evening game in Leipzig on Saturday.
Even before the game, the guests from Mönchengladbach mourned the loss of a supporter.
Leipzig – The duel between RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga was overshadowed by two deaths on Saturday evening.
A Saxony supporter died in the Red Bull Arena during the game.
Attempts to resuscitate the person failed.
“Unfortunately we have to give you some sad news.
Unfortunately this fan passed away.
We are with the relatives and his family,” said stadium spokesman Tim Thoelke at the beginning of the half-time break.
The stadium program was scaled down.
Support from Leipzig had already been discontinued.

The Gladbach bloc also remained silent.
A fan died in a traffic accident while traveling to the away game.
The supporters of the five-time German champions therefore refrained from the usual chants; the mood was sometimes depressing.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends,” said the people of Gladbach.
Some fans called for the game to be canceled after the deaths.
“There are regular discussions about abandoning games these days and I think that if someone dies in the stadium, it would be more than justifiable not to continue the game,” is one of the many comments on

In the final phase, the spectators created a touching scene: countless fans held up their cell phone lights and sang: “We are Leipzig, Rasenballsport Leipzig, red and white are our colors.
We will never go down.” Leipzig won the game 2-0.

Leipzig coach Marco Rose said after the game: “You prepare emotionally for the game, you look forward to your stadium and then at some point you realize something is wrong.
As a coach, you get the information at some point and you're still in the middle of it all and it's still about points.
It is tragic and my sincere condolences to the families.
The stadium and the fans reacted brilliantly.”
