Oliver Glasner was without a coaching position for a little over half a year.

Now the Austrians are taking over Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

London – Oliver Glasner’s successful time at Eintracht Frankfurt ended in the summer after two years.

In the meantime he was repeatedly traded to various clubs.

However, he has now signed a contract with Crystal Palace and is taking over from iconic coach Roy Hodgson.

Crystal Palace coach Hodgson resigns – former Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner takes over

Roy Hodgson sat on the Crystal Palace bench for exactly 200 games in his coaching career.

On Monday (February 19), he announced on the club's website that he was stepping down.

It was only last week that the first rumors emerged that the 76-year-old was leaving after he had to cancel a press conference due to illness.

“However, I understand that given the recent circumstances it is advisable for the club to plan ahead.

“I have therefore decided to step down so that the club can move forward with its plans for a new manager as planned for this summer,” said Hodgson.

As was already indicated last week, this successor is ex-Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner.

Glasner signs with Crystal Palace until 2026 – the goal is to stay in the league

A sustained negative streak has seen Crystal Palace slip into the Premier League relegation battle.

From the last twelve games, Hodgson's team only got two wins and, among others, had to admit defeat 0-5 against Arsenal FC.

The lead over the first relegation spot has now melted to five points.

With Glasner, the Eagles are now aiming to stay in the Premier League.

The Austrian, who won the Europa League with Eintracht in 2022 and then made it to the round of 16 of the Champions League, is signing a contract in London until 2026.

He will not be on the bench on Monday evening in the game against Everton FC.

The debut is scheduled to follow next weekend against Burnley FC.

Palace is looking forward to Glasner: “Exciting and offensive approach”

Glasner was looking forward to the new adventure in the Premier League.

“I’m looking forward to working with the talented team, getting to know the club’s fans and experiencing the atmosphere at Selhurst Park that I’ve heard so much about,” said the 49-year-old Austrian.

His coaching staff will also be confirmed shortly.

The club was also happy that they were able to win Glasner over.

“We are confident his ambition and exciting, attacking approach are perfectly suited to getting the best out of our talented young squad over the remainder of the Premier League season and beyond,” said Palace boss Steve Parish.
