The German biathletes missed a medal at the World Cup mass start.
Johannes Kühn falls shortly before the finish and ends the race covered in blood.
Nove Mesto – The 2024 Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto is history.
At the final men's mass start, Johannes Thingnes Bö won again.
With his 20th (!) World Championship title, the Norwegian drew level with Ole Einar Björndalen and is now the record world champion.
The German biathletes once again had nothing to do with the decision for the precious metal.
Injured by his own weapon: German biathlon star reaches the finish covered in blood
In the end, the DSV quartet took places 10, 12, 14 and 16. A real drama took place on the final lap around Johannes Kühn (3/+1:48.2).
The 32-year-old crossed the finish line covered in blood, and his teammate Justus Strelow quickly flagged down the paramedics.
But what had happened?
Shortly before the finish on Sunday, the Bavarian fell so badly that the barrel of his gun crashed violently into his head.
“At first it just hurt, but when I started running I noticed that there was blood on the ski,” said Kühn at the finish.

Kühn crashes on the last lap while fighting for places
He was immediately treated by doctors while lying at the finish and given a head bandage.
“I have a headache, but otherwise things are going well so far,” said Kühn, who finished the race in 14th place after three penalty laps.
“All in all, a conciliatory end to a modest World Championships,” said the ninth overall World Cup winner.
On the final lap, Kühn's skis jammed as he fought with two other ski hunters on the route for positions beyond the top ten.
Kühn slipped a few meters in the snow after losing his own weapon.
