Steffen Baumgart is the new coach of Hamburger SV.
The former coach of 1. FC Köln was not at a loss to make a clear announcement at the start.
Update from February 20th, 2 p.m.:
Hamburger SV has officially signed Steffen Baumgart as their new coach.
The former coach of 1. FC Köln and SC Paderborn will take over at the second division club with immediate effect and is already leading the training session on Tuesday afternoon.
“Steffen Baumgart is known for his emotionally stirring style.
It is important to maintain the fire that we have ignited and to continue on our path in a targeted manner,” said sports director Jonas Boldt in the club’s statement.
Baumgart, whose contract, according to media reports, runs until summer 2025, also has his say.
“I’m really looking forward to being here and looking forward to the big challenge.
It starts immediately, I will work directly with the boys.
The goal is clear, we don’t have to talk around it: promotion,” the 52-year-old made it clear straight away.

Steffen Baumgart will probably be the new HSV coach
Baumgart recently left 1. FC Köln by mutual consent after two and a half years, the decision was made shortly before Christmas.
The ex-striker is considered by HSV fans to be the preferred candidate to succeed Walter.
Baumgart recently described HSV as his “childhood club”: “I’ve always been a bit of an HSV fan since I was a child.
I became that when the club was still big.”

Now the Rostock native is returning to the north, but Boldt and Co. apparently didn't trust interim coach Merlin Polzin (33) to take on the big task for HSV.
What speaks for Baumgart is that with all his passion, his enthusiasm, his will and his honest work he can create a spirit of optimism again.
He should lead the club back into the Bundesliga for the sixth attempt since relegation in 2018.

HSV wants to return to the Bundesliga with Baumgart
Time is of the essence, HSV is already four points behind a direct promotion spot.
Baumgart knows how to lead a team upwards: with SC Paderborn he once managed to move from the 3rd division to the Bundesliga.
The HSV fans now hope that he will redeem them too - preferably with his legendary flat cap on his head, his Rumpelstiltskin appearances on the sidelines and the power football he plays.
Walter had missed promotion with HSV twice in relegation and was released on February 12th after a weak start to the second half of the season. In the 2-2 draw at Hansa Rostock on Saturday, his former assistant Polzin was on the bench.
Now Baumgart should take care of it.
