Will Guttau stay at 1860 Munich? This is what sports director Werner is planning for the new season

Julian Guttau stands out at TSV 1860 Munich.

That gets attention.

Sports director Christian Werner still wants to keep the squad together.

Munich - The player who was furthest away in the 17th minute had a premonition of what was about to happen - after all, he can read his in-form colleague Julian Guttau better than anyone else.

“We still shoot after every training session – and I’m always in goal,” reported Hiller representative David Richter: “I knew when he put the ball down for the free kick that he was going to take it today.

“It was exactly his position.

I really have to say that he has an outstanding shooting technique – and regularly hits things left and right.”

In the game against Halle, Guttau chose the top right corner for his opening goal, but it could have been anywhere else.

When it comes to his offensive options, the left-footed player is flexible.

Low down (1-0 against Duisburg), with a smack into the top corner (2-0 against Essen) – now his squeaky-clean free-kick goal on Sunday.

There are also two assists in the last three games.

What Guttau has tackled since the beginning of the new football year almost always succeeds.

The former Halle player, who was a commuter between the bench and the pitch under Maurizio Jacobacci in the first half of the season, has become an integral part of the Lions' offensive, which has been readjusted by Argirios Giannikis.

Good, better guttau?

At least the high-class technician recruited from SC Freiburg is increasingly the man who makes the difference on Grünwalder Straße.

Gianniki's change is paying off: Guttau enjoys more freedom at 1860

Remarkable: The development that took 1860 out of the relegation zone by quantum leap is a matter of just 20 or 30 meters on the field.

A tactical trick was enough for the new coach to make Guttau the player the Lions were missing in the first half of the season, which was poor in goals and victories.

Giannikis moved Guttau from the left wing to the offensive center.

There he orbits like a satellite around the central striker Fynn Lakenmacher - a role that he seems to like more and more every week.

“I have my freedom, I'm supposed to swim between the lines,” explained the offensive free spirit at the beginning of his February high: “It works quite well.

I hope it continues like this.” It went.

Also because Guttau is not above working selflessly for the team.

On Sunday he wiped out an HFC counterattack in a full sprint and shortly afterwards gave Buddy “Laki” a great chance with a one-two.

Other clubs celebrated because they lured big names like Boyd (Mannheim) or Ginczek (Duisburg) into the third division relegation battle.

The Lions signed players that hardly anyone knew (Reinthaler, Güler, Muteba & Co.).

And above all, they have fully relied on Guttau, which in its current form will not remain a Giesinger insider tip for much longer.

“1860 is a huge stepping stone for me.”

It's good for the Lions that the universal attacker is not one of the players whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

Guttau's salary is priced into the 4.5 million budget for the coming season, and Christian Werner said during his BR appearance on Sunday evening that his stated goal was to largely keep the squad together for 2024/25.

Of course, his own players are his first point of contact, explained the sports director.

He ruled out another major upheaval in the summer.

“I think,” said Werner, “that we will have good developments there.”

If Guttau continues to perform like this, a development can also begin that will take the 24-year-old towards a higher league faster than the Lions.

He revealed how he sees his future before the season, during his initial interview at the summer training camp: “For me, the important thing is to arrive, leave my mark and help the team.” Guttau sees it this way: “1860 is a huge stepping stone for me. (Uli Kellner)
