Argirios Giannikis has breathed new life into TSV 1860 Munich.

After the series, math games are allowed.

What else is there in the 3rd league?

Munich – 15 points from seven games, undefeated in the new year and close to midfield in the table.

What Argirios Giannikis has achieved with TSV 1860 is nothing short of a miracle, considering the state in which he took over the team at the beginning of January.

“Courage and hope for more”: Arigirios Giannikis revived TSV 1860

As a reminder: a persistent goal crisis hit the Lions from November onwards, the team buckled at the slightest resistance, sometimes seemed paralyzed and could not even be resuscitated by Frank Schmöller, who, as interim coach after Maurizio Jacobacci, had actually made the right adjustments.

And now: Happy fans celebrated the white and blue resurrection for minutes on Sunday.

Are the Giannikis Lions out of the woods yet?

The coach's answer after the win against Halle (1-0): "The team has worked for it and deserves it." The development gives "courage and hope for more," he added - although they have not yet managed to stay in the league with 35 points be.

Nevertheless, the run invites you to explore new goals.

What's left in the last twelve games?

Our overview shows it.

Relegation: Internal goal can already be achieved against Dynamo Dresden

In the last three years, 16th place was enough.

38 points each to stay safely in the 3rd league.

In the worst year (2019), Cottbus was relegated with 45 points - while Braunschweig stayed in with the same number of points.

The Lions are playing it safe in this regard and have set their internal goal for the second half of the season to be eight wins – i.e. 44 points.

This mark could not be reached until March 8th at the earliest - after the games in Verl (Saturday, 4:30 p.m.), against Ulm (March 2nd) and in Dresden.

But no matter how carefully you calculate: If the Giannikis Lions continue to perform as stable as they have recently, the regional league issue should be resolved relatively soon.

DFB Cup the new secret goal?

Current points average could be enough

The next goal that comes into question for 1860 would be - Pipinsried sends its regards - participation in the DFB Cup, which the Jacobacci Lions had carelessly given away by losing the Totopokal at the village club.

Under Michael Köllner, the Lions qualified fourth for the DFB Cup twice, once with 66 points (2021) and once with 61 points (2022).

Last season, Wiesbaden needed an impressive 70 points, but all the top clubs were doing better at the time of comparison.

This means: If the Lions under Giannikis continue to score as diligently as before (average: 2.14), they will end up with 60 to 61 points - under certain circumstances that could be enough to be able to dream of opponents like Borussia Dortmund again after a year's break.

Good for 1860: The new (secret) goal is only seven points away - and there are still many teams in front of the Lions (currently 13th) who will take points away from each other.

Relegation/promotion only possible with a miracle – SSV Ulm are already twelve points away

In order to realize this dream goal, a real blue miracle would be needed.

Ulm, third in the table, is twelve points better than in 1860 - with a similarly good run (14 points from seven games in the second half of the season).

Regensburg and Dresden are weak at the moment, but the poor Jacobacci first half of the season is a mortgage.

Three times in the last five third league years, the third-placed team had 70 or 71 points at the end of the season - exactly the number of points (71) that the Lions can still achieve.

Max Reinthaler wants to at least try, the new lion said confidently: “We want to win every game as a team.

That’s how we’ll continue to approach it.”
