Brehme was only 63 years old.
In the 1990 World Cup final in Rome, the Hamburg native scored the only goal of the game from a penalty against Argentina, making Germany world champions.

newspaper, Brehme is said to have died in Munich on the night of Monday to Tuesday.
According to the report, the 63-year-old was taken to the emergency room on Ziemssenstrasse near his apartment, but could not be saved.
It was only at the beginning of January that football Germany mourned Franz Beckenbauer - as did Andy Brehme.
The Italian world champion celebrated his greatest sporting success under the emperor and also took part in the memorial service in the Allianz Arena in January.
It was one of Brehme's last public appearances.
