FC Bayern and Thomas Tuchel are parting ways in the summer.

A look at history shows that such early announcements did not always end well.

Munich – Coach bang again at FC Bayern!

The Munich team announced on Wednesday that Thomas Tuchel would only be in the record champions' coaching chair until the end of the season.

The search for a successor is already underway.

Hot candidates include ex-player Xabi Alonso, who is currently on course for a championship with Bayer Leverkusen, and France legend Zinedine Zidane.

But other prominent names are also being traded.

Tuchel and FC Bayern are parting ways in the summer – what impact that can have on the team

The big question remains: What effect does the announcement have on the people of Munich, who are currently knee-deep in crisis?

After three defeats in a row, things are boiling on Säbener Straße and the first titleless season in twelve years is looming.

Apparently the Bayern bosses have concrete hope.

Meanwhile, they also hope that the premature announcement of their separation will release new energy in their completely unsettled star ensemble so that they can still experience a successful spring, especially in the Champions League.

Or will the impending separation cause coach and team to divide further?

Will Thomas Tuchel lose his assertiveness in view of the foreseeable departure?

Then, in the event of further bankruptcies and, for example, an exit in the round of 16 of the premier class against outsiders Lazio Rome, it could happen that the coach has to leave even earlier.

A look at Bayern's recent past shows that early announced coach departures had very different effects on the team:

Coach separations at FC Bayern announced early: Hitzfeld still won the double

Ottmar Hitzfeld's second commitment to Bayern as the successor to Felix Magath, who is on leave, lasts almost a year and a half.

At the beginning of 2008 he announced that he would not extend the contract again.

That doesn't hurt success.

The veteran coach, who is highly valued in Munich, once again leads Bayern to win the Bundesliga and DFB Cup double.

The Louis van Gaal case is reminiscent of the Tuchel case - with the worst possible outcome

After the double in his first season, Dutchman Louis van Gaal's second season in Munich was less successful.

In the DFB Cup, they were eliminated in the semi-finals against Schalke, and the championship was practically lost at that point.

In 2011, as with Tuchel, Bayern announced their early contract termination in the summer at the beginning of March.

A certain parallel can be seen, although Tuchel will probably not hope for a similar fate in Munich as van Gaal.

Because the stubborn coach won't make it to the end of the season.

After further setbacks in the fight for the Champions League places, van Gaal will be on leave in April.

Pep announcement as inspiration?

Heynckes leads FC Bayern to a triple after the separation announcement

The veteran German coach Jupp Heynckes signs at Säbener Straße for two years - an extension of the contract will not come about, mainly because Bayern can win Pep Guardiola as their preferred candidate from the summer of 2013.

The constellation seems to particularly motivate Heynckes: He leads the Munich team to the first treble by a German team, with the Champions League triumph against Borussia Dortmund at London's Wembley Stadium as the highlight.

Pep Guardiola and FC Bayern: Signs were pointing to a separation months before - but the double remained

Heynckes' successor Pep Guardiola also made it clear months before the end of his contract in 2016 that there would be no extension.

The Catalan is heading to England, his successor Carlo Ancelotti has six months to prepare for Munich.

During this time, Guardiola made another attempt to win the Champions League, but failed in the semi-finals for the third time in three years.

By winning the double, he said goodbye in a more than reconciled way.

Flick announced the termination of his contract without prior consultation – and at least he became champion

In the middle of the corona pandemic, Hansi Flick achieved something historic when he led Bayern to six titles (championship, DFB Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, DFL Supercup and Club World Cup) - there has only been such a sextuple in Europe before FC Barcelona succeeded under Guardiola.

In the second year (2021), however, there was such a severe crisis between the coach and the club management that Flick announced in an interview without consultation that he wanted to terminate his contract early at the end of the season.

At that point, Bayern were no longer in the Champions League and DFB Cup - but Flick was at least celebrating the championship title as a farewell.
