The Russian twins Dina and Irina Avrina, who are of course remembered by Israeli sports from the Olympics in Tokyo, where they submitted to Linoy Ashram, announced today (Friday) their retirement from the sport at the age of 25. "This is very sad news, I want to cry," said the president of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Association Irina Viner.
"They informed me that they will no longer compete. We have come a long way with them and I wish them success."
Last December, the sisters admitted that retirement was definitely on the agenda, and in the past they even compromised the continuation of their careers by deciding to allow Russia to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Dina Avrina has won countless gold medals throughout her career, but finished as Ashram's only runner-up at Tokyo 2020, causing a major stir in Russia.
"Linoy Ashram performed in a disgusting manner, she will return the medal," said a member of the Russian parliament, and the gymnast's coach also said in those days: "Everyone knows that Ashram should not have been an Olympic champion, she should have taken a bronze medal."
You will forever be the deputy of Ashram.

Arina Avrina, who failed to reach the podium in Tokyo, won "only" five gold medals at the World Championships - compared to her sister's 18.
