Julian Guttau is turning it up at TSV 1860 Munich.

In the interview, the offensive player talks about his soaring heights, YouTube tutorials and his goals.

Munich – He is the man of the hour at TSV 1860: Julian Guttau has blossomed since he was allowed to play ten behind Fynn Lakenmacher;

In his new position he spoils fans and teammates with goals and assists.

Our interview with the 24-year-old left-footer, who was guided to Giesing by former sports director Günther Gorenzel from SC Freiburg II.

Julian, the lions and especially you are on a roll.

How excited are you for the ARD sports show on March 2nd?

I know what you're referring to (grins).

Of course it would be cool to be included in the goal of the month, but I'm not really worried about it.

“Messi eh – we don’t need to talk about him, he’s just unbelievable!”

Julian Guttau, TSV 1860 Munich player, about his idol Lionel Messi.

There were two Guttau goals worth seeing in the month of February - not just the free kick against Halle, but also the angle shot against Essen.

What would your choice be?

Good question.

I think I'll take the free kick because it was my first direct one in the professional game - and also against Halle, my former club.

That was something special for me too.

Who actually taught you this extraordinary shooting technique?

Is it that extraordinary?

(smiles) Yeah, okay, she's not bad.

I think I got a bit of a kick out of it.

From a young age, I tried to shoot in such a way that the ball dropped a little.

Later I watched YouTube videos on how to do something like that.

And then I pushed it further and further.

Apart from your idol Lionel Messi: who among the big stars has a shooting technique that you think is worth imitating?

De Bruyne!

He doesn't have an extremely exceptional shooting technique, but he does have a very precise shot.

Messi eh – we don’t need to talk about him, he’s simply incredible!

“I know exactly how he wants to play, when he gives me which ball.”

Julian Guttau on the interaction with Fynn Lakenmacher at 1860.

Two goals in 35 games for Freiburg II, which was a top team in the third division last season - and now six for 1860, which is at the bottom.

How can that be?

I could have scored a lot more goals in Freiburg, purely in terms of chances.

But I think it's like this in football: you have to get into a flow and then it runs itself.

Unfortunately, the other way around too.

Would you say that Lions fans are currently experiencing the best Julian Guttau of all time?

I think there are still situations in the game that I can solve much better.

Sure, things are going quite well at the moment, the way I move around the rooms and stuff.

But whether it is the shape of my life now.

.

.

Please don't!

I hope there is still room for improvement (laughs).

“It was always clear to me personally that I saw myself as an 8 or 10.

I was lucky at 1860.”

Julian Guttau about his favorite position and Frank Schmöller's change.

Where does the recently blind understanding with Fynn Lakenmacher come from?

We get along extremely well in the dressing room – and on the pitch too.

I know exactly how he wants to play, when he gives me which ball.

I can predict this.

I'm generally really enjoying my new role.

Did Argirios Giannikis have to come first for you to find your ideal position?

For me personally, it was always clear that I saw myself as an 8 or 10.

That was already the case when I came up to the pros.

Then they tried me out on the left, it went quite well there - and then I got this stamp.

At 1860 I was lucky that our interim coach Frank Schmöller put me in the center for one game.

And I think when the new coach came, he saw that straight away.

It's the perfect position for me.

So can we say that the new Julian Guttau is an invention of Frank Schmöller?

If you take it like that: yes.

Like a certain Stefan Lex before you, you too are a number 7 who is preparing to become a fan favorite.

Do you feel the increased appreciation?

I don't know.

On Sunday I definitely noticed that the stadium stood up when I was substituted.

Of course, something like that is good and motivates me to keep doing everything I can.

In the game it means: Not just playing good passes, but also taking part in the disgusting ways for my teammates.

I think that's what defines me too.

“It would be sad if I said I wanted to be a third division player forever.

We’ll see what it’s all about in the end.”

Julian Guttau, TSV 1860 Munich player, about his career plans.

Can you promise the fans that you will continue to hunt for goals for 1860 next season?

I'm a player from 1860 with a contract that runs until 2025 - so there's nothing for me to think about.

I mean, I've played some good games now.

.

.

My focus is clearly here.

However, inquiries from higher leagues will be inevitable if you continue to perform like this.

Torsten Lieberknecht is said to have been spotted in the stadium on Sunday.

These are speculations.

He could have been there because of someone else.

Like I said, I don't think about anything like that.

Has sports director Christian Werner already had any concerns about a possible contract extension?

Like all other players, I am in regular contact with Christian Werner.

When you came in the summer you said that 1860 was “a huge stepping stone” for you.

Where would you like to jump to, medium and long term?

My clear goal was always to play higher, but that depends on many factors.

It would be sad if I said I wanted to be a third division player forever.

We'll see what it's all about in the end.

Speaking of jump.

The relegation battle topic should be over, right?

We worked our way out of the bottom with a lot of work, but we haven't achieved anything yet.

In this league, anyone can beat anyone - that's why we can't let up by one percent.

You can always set new goals – at some point.

“I think when you’re riding a wave like that, you definitely want to keep riding it.”

Julian Guttau about TSV 1860 Munich's current winning streak.

For example, fourth place, which would entitle you to take part in the DFB Cup?

That's still too far away.

If you listen to the team, no one thinks about placings like that.

Of course everyone wants to play in the DFB Cup.

And of course it would be cool to play at the top.

But the current situation looks different.

We just have to keep scoring from game to game.

The goal for Saturday should be clear: with a win, 1860 could overtake Verl.

Does the undefeated streak fill you up or make you want more victories?

Definitely looking forward to more victories!

I think when you're riding a wave like that, you definitely want to keep riding it.
