Kevin Durant had a tough night in Dallas.
His Phoenix lost 123:113 to another performance by Luka Doncic (41 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists), while on the other hand KD did reach 23 points but did so with bad percentages (9 of 22 from the field, 2 of 8 to 3) and recorded many more turnovers (5) than assists (1).
Durant's troubles began even before the first intermediate ball.
In the warm-up, the Phoenix star heard a fan of the home team call him Bitch.
Instead of flinching, Durant approached the fan and the guy next to her, and started talking to them.
When the security forces intervened, the forward asked not to expel the pair of fans from the hall - but at the end he still delivered a nervous monologue.
"People often call me Bitch when my back is turned to them," he said.
"I see, they've had a little to drink, I know people, but there are better ways to get my attention than talking to me like that, and there are better ways to start a conversation. I can't do anything to you, it would destroy everything I've built. I could easily cause For them to be kicked out of the hall, even suspended for a few weeks, but I preferred that he stay and be seen playing."
Durant is known as one of the NBA stars most influenced by public opinion - he often responds on Twitter to people who criticize or mock him.
"I understand the situation," he said.
"Sometimes they don't look at us as human beings. We are animals, we are circus performers, we are entertainers and not real people. People want to pet the animals in a zoo, to get close to them, but when they get closer they realize that we are also actually human beings, and we should be treated as such."
