Former world-class coach Artur Jorge has died at the age of 78.
He once wrested an international title from FC Bayern.

Former Portuguese national football player and coach Artur Jorge has died at the age of 78 after a long period of Parkinson's disease, the Portuguese association announced.
The family announced the death “with deep sadness”: Jorge “fell asleep peacefully in the company of his loved ones after a long illness,” said a statement quoted by the Portuguese media.

The FPF ordered a minute's silence in memory of Artur Jorge, which will take place in all matches of the competitions organized by the Portuguese Football Federation.
Artur Jorge Braga de Melo, as his full name was, played 16 times for the national team and was the Portuguese coach in the 90s.
As a player he was active for FC Porto, Académica de Coimbra, SL Benfica and CF Belenenses.
With Benfica Lisbon he won four championships and the Portuguese Cup twice.
In 1978 he ended his career and moved to the sidelines as a coach.

Artur Jorge won several championships, but his greatest success was winning the European Cup in 1987 with FC Porto.
Opponent in the final back then: FC Bayern Munich.
In the final, which took place in Vienna's Prater Stadium, Bayern took the lead with a goal from Ludwig Kögl.
This lasted until the final phase.
Then FC Porto turned the game around with a double strike from Rabah Madjer and Juary and won the title.

FC Bayern, then with players Andreas Brehme, Hansi Flick, Lothar Matthäus and Jean-Marie Pfaff, had to admit defeat.
“The players simply didn’t do what they were supposed to do,” complained Bayern coach Udo Lattek after the game.
Through this triumph, Artur Jorge became a national hero and was henceforth called “King Artur”.

In addition to FC Porto, he also coached Paris Saint-Germain, Vitória SC, CF Belenenses, Portimonense SC, Matra Racing, SL Benfica, Académica de Coimbra, Tenerife, Vitesse, Al Nasr, Al Hilal, CSKA Moscow, Cretéil and MC Alger.
He was also the national coach of Switzerland, Cameroon and Portugal.
In 2015 he ended his coaching career and retired.
