Former ski jumping world champion Markus Eisenbichler landed on the podium in his comeback and is showing improving form.
Munich – Markus Eisenbichler celebrated his comeback after a seven-week break.
The 32-year-old made it onto the podium at the Continental Cup in Iron Mountain in the US state of Michigan.
In the end he ended up in third place, making him the best German.
The victory went to the Austrian Jonas Schuster, son of the former national coach Werner Schuster.
Biathlon star ejected from World Cup team
It was the first step in the right direction for Eisenbichler, who has yet to appear in the World Cup this season.
In preparation for the current winter, he was left out of the World Cup squad due to poor form.
A shock for Markus Eisenbichler, who from then on had to compete in the second-class Continental Cup.
For a long time, things weren't going well for the 33-year-old there either.
“It's incomprehensible to me that he can't bring anything together.
He often covers up a lot of things.
We need to talk about where we're headed.
Performance counts, that's just how it is.
It doesn’t matter how many medals you have hanging at home,” complained national coach Stefan Horngacher in mid-December.

Because of his ongoing lack of form, Eisenbichler decided to take a break from competition at the turn of the year and instead train intensively in Seefeld and work on his jumps.
That apparently worked, because in Iron Mountain he showed by far his best performance of the entire season.
Strong comeback from ski jumping ace Eisenbichler
The ski jumping star now has to deliver consistently strong performances and show national coach Horngacher that he deserves a new chance in the World Cup.
Recently there have been rumors about a possible end to his career, but Eisenbichler has made an impressive comeback with his comeback.

Eisenbichler made his World Cup debut in 2011, but it wasn't until the 2016/17 season that he made his breakthrough.
In total he won three individual competitions and six competitions in a team competition.
The 32-year-old won six gold medals at world championships and secured bronze in the team competition at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
