Goalkeeper training for the higher levels is not a simple matter and includes many components that are not directly related to the game. Dr. Mark Wertheim, one of the professionals who designed Sharif Kif, says

Summary: Gent - Maccabi Haifa 1:1/Sport1

In modern football, the role of the goalkeeper is still not given enough importance, although in recent times more emphasis has been placed on the training of goalkeepers.

The performance of the man in goal is, as we know, one of the main factors in a loss or victory.

Goalkeeper training becomes more focused on the needs and characteristics of his function along with the characteristics of the player as an individual.

The role profile is different from that of a field player and requires coordination of all its components, where the basis on the defensive side is quick thinking, quick reaction and spatial vision, while thinking of building a game on the offensive side.

Only after developing these elements, it is recommended to develop technical and tactical abilities with the ball in the goalkeeper.

All the subjects of goalkeeper training are related in one way or another to orientation, spatial vision and quick organization of foot and hand to the ball.

The goalkeeper is a defensive player, but also one who can attack quickly.

Therefore it is especially important that it has very good responses at short distances against high intensities.

He needs to be focused, because a fraction of an escape from concentration can cost the gate.

Today, the experts advocate combining coordination exercises to improve concentration for goalkeepers as well.

One of the most important keys to success.

Sherif Kiuf is only 22 years old and won a place in the Maccabi Haifa team.

Usually a goalkeeper reaches his level at the age of 26-27.

Most commentators point to his amazing reactions in complex situations and his high orientation on the goal line.

In the last three years, Sharif has also developed into a field player, a goalkeeper who not only prevents goals, but sometimes plays like a field player even under pressure, when this pressure does not cause him to lose his temper - he makes quick decisions whether to play with the defense or pass to a certain player on the field.

the first years

Kiuf, from the year 2001, started playing soccer at the age of 7 in a club in Usafia, the town where he lives, and was a very energetic player.

At first he played as a defender, but because he was taller than his peers they told him to move to the goalkeeper position.

At the age of 10, he moved to Eruni Nesher as a goalkeeper and even then showed high ability.

A parent in the group who heard about my successes with players started coordination training with his son, and in one of the conversations he was advised to try.

When he was 12 years old, Sharif underwent comprehensive tests in the field of coordination using the OCO™ method, which showed a great drive to move and a strength of resistance beyond his age on the one hand, and deficits in the field of coordination that limited him technically on the other hand.

In addition, power regulation, body feel without the ball and ball feel were lower than expected from a good athlete of his age.

Sharif conducted personal training sessions with goalkeeper coaches and Ami at the same time, when the coordinating issue was at the center.

He stood out in the league games and professionals recognized his potential and turned to his father.

Among the applicants was the late Maccabi Haifa coach Asher Elmani, who said: "I want him now, at the age of 13." The father procrastinated in his decision, because he wanted Sharif to stay another year in his team in Nesher, so he had many conversations with professionals and also with his son, who he discovered at the age A young man with an exceptional matriculation, he was a participant in the deliberation. Finally, he was convinced and moved to Maccabi Haifa.

The hard start on the green

Sharif went through all the ages at Maccabi Haifa.

In the Nike tournament in Finland, when he was in the third grade, he won the title of the best player and Maccabi Haifa won the first place.

Sharif was called to the squads of the national teams at all ages.

Already at a young age he was in contact with the Berman scout in Germany but decided together with his family to stay in Israel, finish high school, get a matriculation certificate and serve in the army.

A long road to success.

In the youth team, Sharif took a championship with Maccabi Haifa under Bnei Lam.

He also trained with the club's senior goalkeepers.

At the end of the season he wanted to move to the seniors because he felt he needed to advance, but he was advised to be the third goalkeeper in the seniors and the first goalkeeper for another season in the youth.

Sharif preferred a team of graduates in a lower league where he would be the first goalkeeper.

Therefore, on the last day of the transfer deadline, he signed a whole village.

According to his father, after a day in the army he would go to Tel Aviv for training and return home late at night.

In Kfar Shalem, Sharif played an important part in the club's rise to the quarter-finals of the State Cup.

During that entire period, he continued to practice coordination exercises independently and also to come to me from time to time to refresh the program.

A year later Sharif injured his hand, underwent surgery and was sidelined for three months.

But no athlete like him will give up.

He made a good rehabilitation and continued to train, among other things, on footwork as well as on spatial vision and orientation (according to the OCO™ method), according to the principle that "you don't stop training when one organ is unhealthy." The rehabilitation helped him to return. the National League, where he excelled and helped keep the team in the National League. In the following season, he also reached the quarterfinals of the cup.

Josh Cohen's injury returned Kiuf to Maccabi Haifa as a second goalkeeper. Sharif practiced even more, increased his training and was highly motivated to catch the The position of the first goalkeeper. Everyone knows the opportunity he got on the 23rd/24th - and the sequel is known.

Sheriff and the special training

At a young age it was not possible to know whether Sharif would meet the anthropometric data (data that examines the volume, center of gravity and mass of the body) expected of him.

Sharif was a quiet boy, did everything he was told and trained in his free time beyond training, out of internal motivation and without pressure from his parents.

It was always important for the sheriff to know why and how much, to understand what was being done.

These are characteristics of talent.

He was always looking for a challenge and to understand how he related to the goalkeepers.

He likes variety, doesn't like repeating the same exercise many times.

knows the material he has in his hands.

Masai Dago/Maor Alxalsi

His father had patience.

He realized that something about this method of working was different from other training sessions with Sharif who really wanted to come to the training sessions and was also present in some of them, but was not involved but stood by his side and supported him - something that is very important for an athlete and allows the athlete to develop himself without pressure and the feeling that he might disappoint his parents.

Sharif trains in exercises that develop and stimulate all (sensory) and coordinative abilities, and periodically goes through tests again to see where he must improve.

He trains in dedicated exercises to improve the function of the eyes and receives quick thinking tasks on the move.

In the various tasks he does not stop until he is told to stop, and when he does not reach the goal he does not stop until he succeeds.

In recent years, with the help of his coaches at the Maccabi Haifa club and with the help of his current coach at the Masai Dego senior team, Sharif has greatly improved his footwork.

In the smart room at the Wertheim Center, he practices playing with two feet based on adapting to changes while moving, especially in situations of loss of balance, he improves his spatial vision and decision-making, and when he has a ball at his foot he already knows where to play it.

Sharif is an example of a player who trains with the different concept - on the one hand coordination and on the other "brain power".

Also excels as a person

Behind Sharif stands a family that understands and appreciates and gives him his freedom.

The family members and he also keep in touch with professionals.

Father Sameh defines Sharif from a young age as a "professional", never complaining, always doing the best and "instead of one training session, he does three".

According to the father, a sheriff with strong mental capacity, when he gets into a problem, gets out of it quickly, knows how to recover in different ways.

The family has given Sharif values and he is showing them now.

He visits the wounded, contributes to the community, loves the country and appreciates the contribution of everyone who stands and stood by him.

Kioff believes in himself.

There is no doubt that he has gone through a long and gradual path, this is probably the right path for him.

Every coach who trained him was "burnt on him".

He is a player whose name in English is COACHABLE and the interest in him in Europe is no accident.

Dr. Mark Wertheim is an expert in developing coordination and quick thinking for players using the OCO™ method,

a mentor and parent companion of accomplished athletes.
