Dorothea Wierer has made a surprisingly clear statement about a possible end to her career and made a decision about her future in the Biathlon World Cup.
Bruneck – The Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto were not successful for Dorothea Wierer.
The South Tyrolean left without any precious metal, but that was to be expected.
The whole season was not a good one because the 33-year-old fell ill several times and was unable to build up the form she needed to be at the front.
Biathlon star Wierer is apparently continuing
“You don't get back into shape so quickly if you've been sick for a long time.
I will make the best of the situation, but you also have to be realistic,” said the former biathlon world champion to the online portal
SportNews before the World Cup.
In the last few weeks and months there have been repeated rumors that Wierer could end her career.
The biathlete herself indicated several times that retirement at the end of the current season was an option.
But suddenly the Italian speaks plainly and rules out a quick end to her career.

“This year was difficult for me.
“I don’t want to stop like this, with a season that doesn’t correspond to my level,” said Dorothea Wierer in an interview with the Italian daily
Repubblica
.
However, she will no longer compete in the current season and will skip the remaining World Cups.
The South Tyrolean wrote on Instagram: “It was hard.
But it’s not goodbye.” She also added a wink emoji.
Biathlete Wierer wants to devote herself to family planning in the future
The fans can apparently look forward to another season with Dorothea Wierer.
It is uncertain whether the Italian will continue until the 2026 Olympics, which will be held in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
For a long time it was assumed in the scene that the biathlon star would not miss the Olympic Games in his own country and would then hang up his rifle.

In the future, family planning will be a priority for Wierer, which is closely linked to the continuation of her career.
Both together are not an option for the 33-year-old.
“I don’t see myself in a dual role as mother and athlete,” explained the 33-year-old, who only wants to have children after her career is over, in an interview with the South Tyrolean newspaper
Il T Quotidiano some time ago.
