Finally the denouement.
After an end to the race without suspense and with very careful management to avoid the slightest technical glitch, Charles Caudrelier is preparing to win the solo round-the-world race.
The Frenchman is expected on Tuesday “
between midnight and noon
” in Brest to claim victory.
The leader continues to show “
caution and wisdom
” in charge of the race, with his lead over his pursuers, in particular Thomas Coville, who still has a little less than 2000 miles to go.
The final bouquet and the party are therefore expected in a few hours in Brest for the skipper of the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild.
Coville solid second, Le Cléac'h third
Since Saturday, Caudrelier has left the Azores and has had to face some difficulties.
“
There were relatively challenging conditions with a fairly strong weather system for this last section of more than 1,200 miles,”
says the race management.
It was underway with strong winds and heavy seas
.
Charles decided to be on the edge of this big depression instead.

Behind the leader and future winner, Thomas Coville (Sodebo Ultim 3) has been moving at around thirty knots since the middle of the night.
In 3rd position is Armel Le Cléac'h who points to the latitude of Cape Verde while Anthony Marchand (Actual Ultim 3, 4th) and Éric Péron (Ultim Adagio, 5th) bring up the rear.
The outcome is near.
And the party promises to be magnificent for Caudrelier, who left on January 7 for Brest.
