Everton can breathe.
Sanctioned in November 2023 with a withdrawal of ten points for violation of the rules of profitability and viability, the Mersey club saw its penalty reduced on appeal this Monday.
According to the Premier League, Liverpool FC's neighbor lost £124.5 million (around €142 million) over a three-year period, ending at the end of the 2021/2022 season.
The maximum authorized being 105 million pounds (around 120 million euros), Everton had been sanctioned.
But this latest development gives sporting air to the Toffees, who move up to 15th place in the championship, now five points ahead of the first relegated side, Luton Town (18th).
The Liverpool club thus returns to a tie with Brentford (25 units) and takes the opportunity to overtake Nottingham Forest in the standings.
But the club has not tasted victory since December 7, 2023 against Newcastle United at home (3-0).

Everton appealed concerning “nine points, each of them being linked to the sanction rather than the offense, which the club admitted”, detailed the English League on Monday.
“Two of these nine reasons were accepted by the appeal committee, which replaced the initial deduction of ten points with six.”
“Although the club is still digesting the decision of the appeal committee, we are satisfied that our appeal has resulted in a reduction in the points sanction,” commented the residents of Goodison Park.
Everton is also the subject of a separate investigation but for similar facts, this time concerning the period ending in June 2023.
