The Ski World Cup is losing a big figurehead.
Norwegian Olympic heroine Ragnhild Mowinckel is retiring at the end of the season.
Oslo – A few more races and it will be over.
After twelve years of World Cup, three Olympics and six World Championships, Norwegian Ragnhild Mowinckel is ending her successful ski career at the end of the season.
The two-time Olympic silver medalist explained this in an emotional video message.
“I think eight-year-old Ragnhild would be proud”: Ski star tearfully announces end of career
“I think eight-year-old Ragnhild would be proud of 31-year-old Ragnhild,” Mowinckel said in the video on Instagram.
“She had dreams that we achieved together.”
How does that feel?
“Strange, but beautiful,” replied Mowinckel through tears and at the same time laughing with joy.
“It was an adventure, I feel happy”.
The ski star recently reacted with mixed feelings to a marriage proposal.

Mowinckel made the decision to end his career before his last World Cup victory
The Norwegian had to repeatedly struggle with injuries throughout her career and tore her cruciate ligament for the second time in 2019.
The decision to end her career was made in January before the orgy of falls in Cortina, when Mowinckel celebrated her fourth and so far last World Cup victory in the downhill.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, but all good things must come to an end,” the 31-year-old Norwegian wrote in the post.
“I'm happy that I can go on my own terms, but I'm determined to go to Saalbach this season.
“So this is not a final farewell, just an opportunity for me to say goodbye to the sport that I love so much, along with the people who have made it so special along the way,” Mowinckel explained.

Mowinckel won Olympic silver in the 2018 downhill and giant slalom.
It was the first medal by a Norwegian woman in the Olympic alpine races since Laila Schou Nilsen in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936.
There are also two bronze medals at world championships: in the combination in 2019 and in the giant slalom in 2023.
She achieved her four World Cup victories in the downhill, in the super-G (two) and in the giant slalom, with a total of 14 podium places.
