Toni Kroos is back in the DFB team.
His family also plays a part in this.
But the 34-year-old made one thing clear with a view to the European Championships.
Frankfurt am Main/Madrid – The decision had been in the making for several weeks, and now it has been made: Toni Kroos is back in the German national team!
The 34-year-old announced this in a statement on Instagram.
This brought great joy not only to numerous fans, but also to his grandfather Heinz in the run-up to the 2024 European Football Championship.
However, Kroos' mother Birgit expressly advised him against returning to national coach Julian Nagelsmann's team, as the Real star now said.

“Of course she said I shouldn’t do that,” said the 34-year-old on Thursday in a special broadcast of his podcast

He added with a laugh: “Of course I have to apologize now.”

He happily predicted that his grandfather Heinz, his biggest fan, would definitely be sitting in front of the TV at the European Championships in the summer wearing the Germany jersey.

In his podcast he also revealed how much he struggled with himself and the big decision.
Also because he was “always fine” with his resignation after the round of 16 exit at the 2021 European Championship against England (0-2).
Together with his wife Jessica, he then made the decision to make a comeback.
The midfielder will return for the international matches in Lyon against France on March 23rd and three days later in Frankfurt against the Netherlands.

When announcing his comeback, Kroos made it clear: “not the savior” for the DFB team
But he also made one thing clear: "Of course I want to help, but I'm not the savior, everyone can say goodbye to that," said Kroos with a view to the upcoming home tournament in the summer.
Nevertheless, he should play a central role in the national coach's team, whose personnel planning is already in full swing.
“I’m very far,” Nagelsmann recently revealed regarding his squad mosaic for the home European Championships.
“Let yourself be surprised.” Kroos’ surprise isn’t that big anymore.
“He is still a world-class player who is capable of powerful things,” said sports director Rudi Völler.
The shoe does not press “quite as extreme” in the midfield.
