Who is currently leading the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship?
Here you will find an overview of the driver rankings with the scores of all drivers.
Paris – The umbrella organization of Formula 1, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), has fixed guidelines for the drivers' championship.
The awarding of points in the racing series follows a fixed pattern.
This results in a table of pilots, which also decides the world champion at the end of the season.
Formula 1: This is what lies behind the drivers' championship table
The Formula 1 season is made up of a series of consecutive individual races.
In 2024 the premier class will consist of 24 Grand Prix.
After each successfully completed run, the drivers receive points based on their final position in the race.
The distribution takes place according to the following pattern:
First: 25 points
Second: 18
Third: 15
Fourth: 12
Fifth: 10
Sixth: 8
Seventh: 6
Eighth: 4
Ninth: 2
Tenth: 1
Over the course of the Formula 1 World Championship, the points are added up so that the drivers' overall ranking is determined at the end of the season.
Fastest lap and sprint race: Extra points for the F1 Drivers' Championship
In addition, drivers have the opportunity to get an extra point at every Grand Prix.
To do this, they have to complete the fastest lap of the race and finish in one of the first ten places.
In addition, since 2021, a number of sprint courses have been taking place throughout the year - there will be six in 2024.
The fastest pilots also receive points for this according to a position-based scheme.
Only the best eight in the field are considered countable:
First: 8 points
Second: 7
Third: 6
Fourth: 5
Fifth: 4
Sixth: 3
Seventh: 2
Eighth: 1

F1 Drivers' Championship: How does the score change when changing teams during the World Championship?
If a driver changes racing teams during the current Formula 1 season, he also takes the points he has earned to date with him.
The team change does not affect his position in the drivers' standings.
Only the total number of points is decisive for the outcome of the World Cup.
It doesn't matter which cockpit the grid participants sit in during the year.
Drivers' standings in Formula 1: This is what you need to consider
If a Grand Prix is canceled, the points ranking for the pilots for this race may change.
If the leader completes two laps or less of the entire course, the race classification does not award any points for this run.
If the first place finisher in the race completes three laps or more, but not more than 25 percent of the total distance, the points formula is as follows:
First: 6 points
Second: 4
Third: 3
Fourth: 2
Fifth: 1
The situation is different if the leader has covered between 25 and 50 percent of the route at the time the race is stopped:
First: 13 points
Second: 10
Third: 8
Fourth: 6
Fifth: 5
Sixth: 4
Seventh: 3
Eighth: 2
Ninth: 1
If the distance is over half and under 75 percent, the distribution of points is as follows:
First: 19 points
Second: 14
Third: 12
Fourth: 9
Fifth: 8
Sixth: 6
Seventh: 5
Eighth: 3
Ninth: 2
Tenth: 1
And from 75 percent of the race distance to be covered, the drivers receive the usual number of points for the overall ranking.
However, these special provisions do not apply if a timeout occurs (as a result of a red flag interruption).
The pilots then complete a final lap and, depending on their final position, also receive the usual number of points for a complete run.
There are no longer half points since the 2022 season.
