Alexandra Popp dreams of Jürgen Klopp as national coach.
The Hrubesch post will soon be vacant.
She has a clear profile for the successor.
Heerenveen - For the German women's national team on Wednesday (February 28th) it's all or nothing in the game for third place in the Nations League against the Netherlands.
After the recent 1-2 defeat in the semi-final against France, the DFB women need a win to qualify for the Olympics in Paris in the summer.
But that's not all: the future of interim national coach Horst Hrubesch also depends on the outcome of the game.
Captain Alexandra Popp is already posing an exciting candidate to be his successor.
Klopp as Hrubesch's successor?
DFB captain Popp “would celebrate it”
If the DFB team wins, Hrubesch, who was recently disappointed by a national team player, will also look after the team at the Olympic Games.
However, if she misses qualifying for the tournament, the 72-year-old will only be available for a “transitional period” during which a change would be initiated and his long-term successor would be arranged.
But one thing is certain: After the Olympics at the latest, it will be over for the former Essen and Hamburg resident, who has been in office on an interim basis since last autumn.
So who will lead the DFB women into the future after Hrubesch?
Alexandra Popp has now brought a very prominent dream coach into play with a wink.
“Jürgen Klopp,” said the captain in the
Sky
interview, laughing about the outgoing team manager of Liverpool FC, “I would celebrate that, I have to say.”

Popp is in favor of Klopp at the DFB - but commitment is unlikely
For Popp, it doesn't matter whether a man or a woman will look after the DFB women in the future.
“The person simply has to, yes, to put it stupidly, fully bloom for this position and live certain things to a certain extent in order to take the team with them,” said Popp on
Sky
and added: “And I don’t care whether it’s a man or a man Female.”
It is questionable that Klopp will actually follow Hrubesch in the coming months.
When announcing his farewell, the current coach of the “Reds” emphasized that he did not want to work as a coach for a year after the current season.
His advisor Marc Kosicke recently expressly confirmed this plan.
Klopp would therefore not be available until summer 2025 at the earliest.

DFB sports director Künzer: “We are prepared for anything”
The new DFB sports director Nia Künzer had blocked questions about the future appointment of the national team's coaching position the previous week.
“We have done our homework and are prepared for everything,” assured the former world champion.
Another possible destination for Klopp could be the men's national team.
Most recently, nebulous DFB statements in the ZDF sports studio brought him into discussion as national coach.
