Highlights: PSG: more serene and decisive, Gianluigi Donnarumma is our player of the month for February 2024. Ousmane Dembélé close second with a total rating of 6.64 out of 10 in February. Kylian Mbappé in 4th place in our February ranking, behind Danilo Pereira (6.21) and ahead of Lucas Hernandez (5.70). A month of ups and downs for him, marked by the announcement of his departure from the club at the end of the season.

Based on the ratings given by Le Parisien reporters, each month we designate the PSG “player of the month”. After Kylian Mbappé in

Methodology

.

As in our first semester report card, we agreed on two marks for each player: one for performance, which corresponds to the average of his marks in Le Parisien, and one for participation, which corresponds to the number of marks received (for Donnarumma, rated 5 times out of 6 possible, we get 8.33/10).

As a reminder, a player must have played at least 45 minutes of a match to be rated.

Our final score is made up of the performance score (coef. 3) and the participation score (coef. 1).

Donnarumma's 6.73/10 therefore corresponds to: (6.20 x 3 + 8.33 x 1) /4 = 6.73.

In a month where he will have celebrated, in quick succession, his 100th match under the Parisian tunic and his 25th birthday, Gianluigi Donnarumma seems to have, temporarily, chased away doubts.

Temporarily, because the position of goalkeeper is so made, and so unrewarding, that it will only take one blunder or a slump for these doubts to resurface immediately.

But in the meantime, the Italian goalkeeper continues to deliver decisive, classy performances and is less and less a subject of debate at Paris Saint-Germain.

The month of February perfectly illustrated this state of affairs.

The Italian, second most used player in the squad (2,530 minutes of play) behind Kylian Mbappé (2,684) played 5 of the last 6 matches, leaving his place to Keylor Navas only for the Ligue 1 match against in Lille (3-1).

And February started strong for the Italian, major architect of the short and tedious victory of the Reds and Blues at Meinau against Strasbourg (1-2): with 7 saves, he made his biggest match at this level of the season (tied with the first leg of Ligue 1 against Lyon in September) and obtained a rating of 7.5 in our columns.

Ousmane Dembélé close second

In five games, Donnarumma has only conceded 3 goals (against Strasbourg, Brest in the Cup and Rennes), although he had to face 18 shots on target.

Making obvious progress on the foot this season, he is always stronger on his line, capable of saves as spectacular as they are decisive, such as against Sahi against Strasbourg (1st), against Brestois Magnetti (30th, score of 6.5 for Donnarumma) or several times against Nantes, notably on a nice strike from Pallois (54th, score of 7).

In an intense month marked by the return of the Champions League, the Italian was not the only guarantor of the good results and good performances of PSG.

Very close to him in the ranking, which he probably does not dominate because he has only been rated four times, we find Ousmane Dembélé with a total rating of 6.64 out of 10 in February.

The Parisian number 10 is also increasingly unanimous in this team where his talent as a dribbler and line-breaker is a real asset.

His performances against Brest (he is rated 7.5) or Lille (7) were the most noted.

January winner, Kylian Mbappé (6.17) places himself in 4th place in our February ranking, behind Danilo Pereira (6.21) and ahead of Lucas Hernandez (5.70).

A month of ups and downs for him, marked by the announcement of his departure from the club at the end of the season: two excellent matches against Brest (8) and Real Sociedad (7), but also two matches in which he did not is not rated (Lille and Nantes) and the last, against Rennes, where it receives a rating of 3.
