Skiing is once again overshadowed by the end of the season: Sonja Gigler tears her cruciate ligament again a year after her serious injury.
Vorarlberg – The term “unlucky bird” probably applies better to no other ski star these days than to Sonja Gigler.
The Austrian freestyle skier was actually supposed to celebrate her comeback this weekend, which she had been working towards with so much meticulousness and passion over the past few months.
Now a serious injury is slowing her down again.

Sonja Gigler actually wanted to make her comeback
Actually everything was prepared for her comeback.
After the race was canceled on Saturday, Gigler was due to return to the slopes at the home race on the Reiteralm on Sunday.
But this did not happen.
The 22-year-old fell during training for the race and was then taken to hospital for examinations.
The worst fears had come true.
Gigler tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee and will therefore be out for the rest of the season.
The ÖSV athlete is scheduled to undergo surgery at the Hochrum private clinic on Tuesday.
The planned comeback has therefore been put on hold for the time being - and will probably only take place in about a year.

Sonja Gigler tore her cruciate ligament a year ago
The tragic thing about the story: On February 26, 2023, Gigler tore her cruciate ligament while chasing a World Cup medal in the mixed team competition for ski crossers in Bakuriani, Georgia, but at that time it was in her left knee.
The Austrian ski crosser was seriously injured almost exactly a year ago.
Alpine ski racing in particular has been overshadowed by many serious injuries this winter - superstars Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, among others, crashed in the past few weeks.
Gigler started alpine ski racing at the age of ten.
She competed in her first international race on December 2, 2017 at Pass Thurn.
However, the big hit among the Alpine skiers failed to materialize, so she decided to switch to freestyle skis at the start of the 2021/22 season.
Gigler specializes in the discipline of ski cross.
