The last time Washington won over 50 games in one season was sometime in 1978/79.
Very few people thought that this streak would be interrupted this season, but, on the other hand, few estimated that the reality would be so bleak.
Even before the meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers, Danny Avdia's team shares the worst balance in the league - 49:9 - with Detroit, a team that broke low records with 28 consecutive losses.
At this rate, the Wizards are on track to set a historical precedent with the worst season in club history, nothing less.
Washington has of course had quite a few miserable basketball seasons throughout the club's 60 years, but no representative from the capital has finished a season with the worst record in the league since the Baltimore Bolts did it in 1966/67.
The Wizards count 12 consecutive losses, and since Brian Keefe replaced Wes Anseld they are 13:2.
Their record against teams with a positive record is a humiliating 37:1 (the lone win - over Indiana), and if this trend continues, Washington will finish 2023/24 with just 15 wins - the 10th worst season in the league since 2000.

According to the "Washington Post", the worst team in the 2000s (weighted by several figures, not just wins and losses) is Charlotte of 2011/12.
As for Lavdia himself, the Israeli who missed the previous three games due to injury, is in doubt for tonight's match.
